Phone home: Galaxy Note 7 users face Samsung's recall

Now Samsung to Replace one Million US Galaxy Note 7 Phones.

One of the most popular mobile phones in America is also one of the most unsafe. The company officially recalled the smartphone Thursday. Samsung previously told a Korean government agency that there was an error in production that pressured the plates within the battery cells and brought opposing poles into contact, which triggered the excessive heat. He plans on returning to the Note 7 - or its successor - once he's certain the battery issue is fixed. This is a tricky spot to be in, since the explosion happened almost a week after Samsung unofficially recalled the handset and a week prior to the formal recall notice in conjunction with the CPSC. Samsung attributes the problem to the phone's battery and plans to release new Note 7s that fix the issue by September 21.

On Aug. 31, Samsung announced that it was halting shipments of the $850 phone to conduct more tests for "product quality".

On YouTube, videos of customers unboxing their new Galaxy Note 7 have been displaced by videos of cars that caught fire allegedly from the overheated phones. Samsung is now working with the CPSC to recover Note 7 devices from US consumers. Samsung has received 92 reports of batteries overheating in the United States alone, including 26 reports of burns and 55 cases of property damage. The Samsung Galaxy Note 7 uses Gorilla Glass 5 for protection whereas the Note 5 uses Gorilla Glass 4. You can use the Samsung+ app to automatically check your phone's status and look up information about the recall.

Hillary Clinton Grilled by Zach Galifianakis for Between Two Ferns

"I think I would", said Robert Lerner, a 64-year-old financial consultant who lives in the San Francisco Bay Area. "But I'm scared it's going to explode", said Franco.

Samsung said on Thursday that new Note 7 replacement devices will be available at most retail locations in the United States no later than September 21.

It has also raised questions about whether Samsung's rush to take back the phones confused consumers. Major U.S carriers and retailers are working with the company and issuing refunds or replacements for the phones.
