Kerry: Aleppo fighting makes Syria deal unlikely

Obama’s failure in Syria will haunt his successor

The Syrian government said on Saturday its belief in victory was "even greater" because the Syrian army was progressing in the war against terrorism, while the Syrian opposition plans to meet to decide whether to continue with stalled United Nations -led peace talks.

He says Syria's government has launched a "concerted campaign" to strike civilian targets, and that President Bashar Assad's forces are trying "to bomb civilians into submission".

Al-Moallem, in the interview on Mayadeen TV from NY, also said Assad's administration was prepared to take part in a unity government, incorporating elements from the opposition, an offer that has been rejected in the past by his opponents.

In an interview to Arabic-language Iranian television Mayadeen, Moallem said that the fact that US Secretary of State John Kerry and Freign Minister Sergei Lavrov are continuing to communicate shows the truce "is not dead". "Every time the Syrian Army kills another foreign terrorist, it spares the lives of many innocent people who could have died in a terrorist act carried out by the same terrorist upon returning to his country", he argued.

"The Syrian government puts all the responsibility for aggression on the USA, as the facts show, that it was a deliberate attack, but not a mistake - even if America says the opposite", Muallem said during a general debate at the 71st Regular Session of the United Nations General Assembly in NY.

He stressed that the statements made by UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon on Syria at the UN General Assembly were "shameful" and that him accusing the Syrian government of using banned weapons without proof is not befitting his position, revealing that he had cancelled an appointment with Ki-moon set by the latter on Saturday in light of these stances.

The U.S. military says the airstrikes were aimed at IS, which was fighting in the area.

No change in hospital antibiotic use overall in recent years
The threat of resistant bacteria was the only topic on the agenda of an all-day "high-level meeting" that took place this week. It was the overprescribing and misuse of antibiotics over the past 50 years that allowed these superbugs to emerge.

Al-Moallem accused the U.S., Britain, and France of convening the Security Council meeting in order to support "terrorists" inside Syria.

"I don't think the opposition is going to be particularly excited about having a negotiation when they're being bombed and starved", Kerry said.

Hijab, the head of the opposition High Negotiations Committee (HNC), hit out at Russian Federation for its support of the Damascus regime, saying it had lost credibility as co-chair with the United States of the Syria peace process.

Some 120 gunmen and their families are expected to leave the al-Waer neighborhood in the central city of Homs as part of an agreement to restore the government's authority over the neighborhood, Homs Governor Talal Barazi said.

Some 75,000 people still live in Al-Waer, down from 300,000 before the start of the Syrian uprising in 2011. A Syrian Arab Red Crescent convoy of 36 trucks delivered assistance for 4,000 families in the district on Saturday.

He said Damascus would support the idea of holding a referendum on a new constitution followed by parliamentary elections and the formation of a unity government.

He stressed that the U.S. is leading a conspiracy in Syria along with Western and regional states, supplying terrorists with weapons and funds and facilitating their influx with huge numbers across borders, pointing out that the terrorists have not entered northern Syria using parachutes, they crossed the Turkish borders.
