India relocates 10000 from around Kashmir as tensions rise

"You can see the way the fortifications are built and the way Pakistan has layers of defence and they have layers of defence. the LoC cannot be violated", he said.

Tensions between the two arch rivals have been boiling since the Indian government accused Pakistan-based militants of launching an assault on an army base in Kashmir earlier this month that killed 18 soldiers.

The presence of Indian forces so far across the Line of Control (LoC) would be a stinging blow to Pakistan, particularly after the 2011 U.S. raid that killed Osama bin Laden which took place on its territory without its consent. The announcement by the DGMO came soon after Prime Minister Narendra Modi announced that attackers on an Indian army camp in Uri in Kashmir will not go "unpunished" and that the sacrifice of 19 jawans will not go in vain.

India said on Thursday it had carried out "surgical strikes" in Azad Kashmir, a claim that Pakistan condemned and denied.

The sources said Sharif maintained that Islamabad could not condemn the attack, which India has blamed on Pakistan-based Jaish-e-Mohammad militant group, and the death of the security personnel when "India had no regret over its atrocities and brutalities" in the valley.

UN Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon has offered to mediate in the dispute as the worldwide community urged restraint.

"The operations were basically focused to ensure that these terrorists do not succeed in their design of infiltration and carrying out destruction and endangering the lives of citizens in our country", he said.

Political parties, including Congress, hail surgical strikes
The military action by India came 11 days after terrorists killed 18 Indian soldiers in Jammu and Kashmir's Uri. All of us stand firmly united against terrorism and those who support and sponsor it", Mr Gandhi said.

On Friday night, the leader's office said it would convene a meeting of the heads of parliamentary parties about the crisis Monday.

Yesterday, Defence Minister Manohar Parrikar asserted that Pakistan has been left shell-shocked by the "surgical strikes" carried out by Indian Special Forces, adding that it was unable to realize how and when the Indian commandos sneaked into PoK to complete the mission.

The latest flashpoint has unleashed a torrent of fury on social media and impassioned news coverage from both sides of the border. Nadeem Mandviwalla, owner of Mandviwalla Entertainment and shareholder in the largest cinema chain in Pakistan, told CNN that his theaters would temporarily pull all Indian films "until normalcy of relations between the two countries".

Meanwhile, Bollywood films were being pulled in Pakistan.

Their statements came after the Indian Motion Pictures' Artists Association adopted a resolution earlier this week demanding a ban on all Pakistani actors and technicians until the situation returned to normal. "No external force has the capability or capacity to challenge the sovereignty and territorial integrity of Pakistan", he said.

Nueplex Cinemas also joined the ban.

Kashmir, a Muslim-majority region, has been disputed territory between India and Pakistan for 70 years.
