Trump rejects 'phony' polls, insists 'we are winning'

U.S. Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton slammed rival Donald Trump on Monday for saying that the week-old effort to retake the Iraqi city of Mosul from the control of Islamic State was going badly. After months of playing both sides of the fence - tepidly endorsing Trump or refusing to condemn his attacks on people of color, immigrants and women - now they are finally prepared to distance themselves. The new poll shows him at 49% and Ross at 43%. "Without the dishonesty and deceit of the media, Hillary Clinton would be nothing, nothing", he said.

Clinton, who turns 69 on Wednesday, aims to become the nation's first female president.

Clinton's supporters are increasingly apt to say that their votes for her are to express support for Clinton rather than opposition to Trump (69% say so now vs. 60% in the last CNN/ORC poll), while Trump's supporters are holding steady on this metric (59% say their votes are about expressing support for Trump now, exactly the same as in the last CNN/ORC poll).

Clinton tops Trump on every other issue tested this way in the poll, including terrorism (Clinton +2), immigration (Clinton +3), nominating justices to the Supreme Court (+5) and foreign policy (+21).

Donald Trump claimed at a rally in Florida on Monday that when the polls are done "properly", he's actually in the lead.

Nobody knew until about two weeks ago how that happened. "We are behind", she said.

"Anybody would like to say a few words about working for Trump?" the GOP presidential nominee asked the cooks, housekeepers and others at a Tuesday morning campaign event on the lush grounds. "We are going to WIN!"

The poll indicated that Trump trails Clinton by ten percentage points in populous Clark County, one point in Washoe County and leading in rural areas of the state by a 56 to 34 percent margin.

"He's proving to the world what it means to have an unqualified commander in chief", she said. "It's not only wrong, it's unsafe, and it needs to be repudiated on Nov 8".

Mr. Trump leads in most polls of Iowa and is almost tied in OH, according to Real Clear Politics.

Trump's campaign manager Kellyanne Conway appeared to contradict her candidate by admitting Sunday on NBC's "Meet the Press" that "we are behind", but insisting Trump remained viable. "And it's one of the great places on earth", Trump said during a visit to his golf club before encouraging his employees to praise him at the microphone. Our latest tracking poll out shows Clinton holding that 12-point lead over trump.

A CNN poll released Monday has Clinton ahead by five points.

On Monday, the Democratic nominee campaigned alongside New Hampshire Gov. Maggie Hassan, who is in a tight Senate race against Republican incumbent Kelly Ayotte.

In upstate NY, the National Republican Congressional Committee has been running a TV ad that says a Democratic candidate, Kim Myers, would "fast-track" Clinton's agenda in the House.

Trump vowed anew to "repeal and replace" the president's signature health care overhaul. And he openly contemplated possible election defeat. "Because competing for the job I now hold, you've got a guy who proves himself unfit for this office every single day, every single way", Obama said at an election rally in Las Vegas, Nevada.

"But they went along with these stories because they figured, you know what, this will help rile up the base, it will give us an excuse to obstruct what we're trying to do, we won't be able to appoint judges, we'll gum up the works, we'll create gridlock, it will give us a political advantage", Obama said.
