Trump responds to UC Berkeley protests, threatens to pull funding

Judd Apatow tweet

"The violence was an attack on our fundamental values, which are maintaining and nurturing open inquiry and an inclusive, civil society - the bedrock of a genuinely democratic nation", Dirks said in a statement.

A non-student who failed to leave the premises upon police orders was the only known arrest that occurred Wednesday evening, the San Francisco Chronicle reported citing campus police.

Yiannopoulos has been described as "right-wing internet troll" by the Guardian and "a troll and provocateur who uses odious behavior in part to "entertain", but also to deflect any serious engagement with ideas" by the university itself.

Assembly Speaker Anthony Rendon, a Democrat from the Los Angeles suburb of Paramount, said that they are on the hold as they expect another "angry tweet" regarding the Berkeley situation.

"It absolutely does Don", the professor eagerly started. He added, "I'm an ardent defender of free speech, because I don't want anybody telling me what book I should write, and what speech I should give".

Hartle said that would be an "extraordinarily complicated" issue to tackle with legislation.

Federal funding contributed an estimated $200m (£160m) in student financial aid and generated $400m (£320m) in revenue from research contracts and grants in the 2015/16 financial year, the UC Berkeley said.

Yiannopoulos also said at the time he didn't know if he will be called upon by White House press secretary Sean Spicer.

Chelsea held by Liverpool but rivals fail to profit
After all top four teams including Tottenham and Arsenal dropping points, Chelsea remain at the top of the table with 56 points. Jurgen Klopp has warned that Liverpool can not expect the returning Sadio Mane to end the worst run of his reign on his own.

Peaceful protests grew to a crowd of over 1,500, police estimated, before "more than 100 armed individuals clad in ninja-like uniforms" showed up. Campus officials say police and the university could not have anticipated that some of them would "invade" the campus to shut down the Yiannopoulos event. Student Chris Vinan said, "It was very organized and thought out".

A small group later took the chaos into nearby city streets. Several windows of the student union were smashed. "When will all the fools who are still supporting Trump realize what is at stake?" Cohen and others express hope that Trump will recognise that federal funding for Berkeley and other United States universities are a key part of what 'makes America great'.

Yiannopoulos said on Facebook he was evacuated "after violent left-wing protestors tore down barricades, lit fires, threw rocks and Roman candles at the windows and breached the ground floor of the building".

Not everyone who bought tickets for the speech supported Yiannopoulos. "It's not the views I believe in". "Usually these are the same people who are arguing for free speech". The nation heard Berkeley, and the school looked foolish.

Other protests could be violent and destructive. Right now, campuses are places where people can mobilize.

A few thousand people marched to take it back. A lighting fixture set up for the event was lit on fire, which then spread to a nearby tree. No one will ever agree when or why a protest should cross the line into a riot.

Campbell expressed disappointment at the protest and the vandalism to his school. President Trump wasted no time politicizing the protest, tweeting a bold threat that he would strip federal funding from UC Berkeley, one of the most prestigious university's in the nation.

Ronnau and his collegues watched out for each other as they walked through campus Thursday, the potential for violence keeping them on edge. This only made him more beloved by the alt-right.
