Kyle Shanahan gets unwanted head coach test after his Falcons collapse

We've all expected this for weeks now, but Kyle Shanahan is indeed the new head coach of the San Francisco 49ers. Shanahan was pulling the strings of a historically unsafe offense and he's expected to one day lift the 49ers to the very same level.

The 37-year-old coach was the architect of an offense that led the National Football League with 540 points (81 more than any other team) and finished in the top five in both rushing and passing in 2016. He designed an innovative pistol-based read-option-heavy offense with Griffin in 2012; with Ryan this year, he tweaked an already-established quarterback's game to incorporate more bootlegs and under-center snaps to create one of the most unstoppable offensive juggernauts we've ever seen. Shanahan's immediate two predecessors, Jim Tomsula and Chip Kelly, each were fired one year into their respective four-year contracts. He and his wife, Mandy, have three children. Got into second-and-11, so we try to get a pass to get us back into a manageable third down, closer to the field goal, and we took a sack. The 49ers have plenty of questions that need to be answered on both sides of the ball this offseason, as they finished with the league's worst defense in terms of yards and points allowed and with the NFL's second worst offense in terms of yards gained.

But what seemed like one of the better head-coaching hires is suddenly clouded in criticism.

Yet thanks in part to some suspect play-calling in the fourth quarter Sunday, the Falcons stumbled and eventually fell to the Patriots in overtime.

Everything was going well for Kyle Shanahan. He'll join first-time general manager John Lynch to form a duo of rookies atop the San Francisco power structure.

Twickenham Truths: Sub-plot saves England record, George Ford stalling
The pressure applied when they didn't have the ball rattled England , who are perhaps unused to being challenged by such physicality.

Shanahan was then asked about the fine line between being aggressive with the pass and being mindful of clock management.

Kyle Shanahan better hope the 49ers brass wasn't watching the game....

Of course, Shanahan has plenty to prove as a head coach. A strong and cooperative head coach and GM pairing will be key for the 49ers as they look to restock personnel. Shanahan is expected to sign a six-year deal, the same as Lynch's contract. "Most importantly, we want to give our fans a team they can be proud of on and off the field".

According to national reports, two of their defensive-coordinator targets are Patriots linebackers coach Brian Flores, 35, and former Jaguars linebackers coach Robert Saleh, 38. (In the second half), we got a few big plays in the pass game, missed a couple in the run game.

He was named Associated Press Assistant Coach of the Year after the 2016 season.
