UConn Women Win Historic 100th Game In A Row

UCONN 99

The Connecticut women's basketball team goes for the program's 100th consecutive win Monday against SC (21-2).

Someone in Phoenix sports media suggested a large amount of Division 1 women's college basketball coaches should lose their jobs for not being able to beat UConn. It's UConn. It's not like they only beat Trident Tech the last 100 games.

Those people are wrong.

It's a remarkable achievement and proof of one of the greatest dynasties in the history of sports.

No. 13 Kentucky 83, Tennessee 58: Malik Monk had 20 points and a career-high eight rebounds; Derek Willis had 16 points, and Kentucky made 10 of its 11 3-point attempts in the first half to roll past Tennessee (14-12, 6-7 Southeastern Conference).

It makes this group the flawless group to reach a number like 100.

For openers, it's not as if UConn has NEVER lost a women's college basketball game. It didn't matter who the opponent was. Junior guard Kia Nurse has thrived as a defensive stopper, while junior forward Gabby Williams has anchored the frontcourt despite giving up size in numerous Huskies' most challenging games.

The Gamecocks are led by the best post duo in the game in 6-foot-5 A'ja Wilson and 6-4 Alaina Coates.

Charter schools are public schools, and they would not be necessary if traditional public schools were doing their jobs. To help states meet the excess costs, the federal government supplied $11.9 billion in funding in 2016.

Through it all, the only thing CT has done is win. "So you take some good things".

Still, folks will probably try to pick the Huskies apart.

The streak is now 10 more games than the second longest winning streak in NCAA history - which was 90 by the Huskies. But in the case of the Lady Huskies, the competition has been pretty darn good. They've won by double digits in 98 of the 100. Maybe even now, in a nursery somewhere, the baby girl who will lead Notre Dame or Maryland or Baylor or Stanford over UConn is smiling and giggling at the little orange, plastic basketball someone is dangling over her bassinet. But they do have the best team in the nation. "It's really a positive thing for our sport, and I wish it was something that was covered more".

What's UConn's record in AAC games decided by ten points or less? We just went through the New England Patriots. She was UConn's best player in a win at Notre Dame and she thrived against SC, which had a significant size advantage up front. As an opposing fan, perhaps schedule a pilates class the next time the Huskies come to town. The Gamecocks entered the night ranked No. 6 in the country, with a 21-2 overall record.

The Huskies, who are ranked No. 1 by The AP, have won their last 99 games and are hosting the sixth-ranked Gamecocks.

SC held their ground in the first half by staying consistent in points with UConn.

As South Carolina struggled, UConn continued getting stronger as it closed out the victory with relative comfort. But then the Huskies did what they always do. The Huskies have conquered every one at one point or another. At that point, Staley actually had to pull a few of her starters; not because the game was over.

"How long is it going to be before someone gets anywhere close to that (win streak)", Stringer said. They'd given their absolute best. South Carolina's final three possessions ended in turnovers, and UConn converted all three into baskets - five of those points coming from Naphessa Collier. The underclassmen on the team have never seen defeat.
