Anti-Trump militants mark "Not my President's Day"

Dozens of other cities, from Salt Lake City to Philadelphia, have also launched affiliated or related actions for Presidents' Day.

Protesters stand on the steps of Los Angeles City Hall, Feb. 20, 2017.

Some protesters also gathered at airports nationwide to oppose Trump's order to temporarily close USA borders to refugees and immigrants, an action that remains blocked in federal court. One woman said she has many friends who voted for President Trump, and said she's disappointed in those friends.

"We want to show how displeased we are", Andy Frears, 47, told AM New York.

Anti-Trump activists have seized on today's federal holiday to organize "Not My Presidents Day" rallies in NY and other cities around the country.

This week, they led a vocal group of about 200 people through downtown streets in response to President Donald Trump's Twitter pledge last month to "Send in the Feds!" if the city can not control its violent crime. "We do not accept Donald Trump as our president because he does not represent us".

Trump Doesn't Get to Decide if the Russia Story Is 'Fake News'
He's also going after those who have leaked information to the press, describing it as a "criminal act". Some Republicans also called on the White House for more disclosure.

Qamar Khan, a 26-year-old medical school student from Pakistan, said that as a Muslim he wanted to voice disagreement with Trump.

Details on Denver's rally can be found in a Facebook event page describing the rally to be "positive, patriotic, and upbeat".

For his part, Trump made no mention of the rallies on his personal Twitter account, writing in all caps: "HAPPY PRESIDENT'S DAY-MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN!" Demonstrators there called attention to Trump's crackdown on immigration and his party's response to climate change and the environment.

A rally in downtown Los Angeles also drew thousands. "We are hoping the positiveness will come out and everyone will see this". But for thousands of anti-Trump militants across the country, it was "Not My President's Day".

Jones encourages those who support the administration to let their legislators know they're out there. "This will be an informative gathering to hear from grassroots local and national organizations; Indivisible KC, Kansas City Progressive Caucus, The Muslim Civic Initative, UMKC Associate law professor Edward Cantu, and private citizens".

The protest was one of many across the country last night, in a nationwide effort to urge the government not to hold a formal visit for President Trump. For Trump's critics, to truly resist his administration, it is necessary to tackle more than just the politician.
