Sixers present, and future looks worse after trade deadline debacle

Philadelphia 76er's center Nerlens Noel's upcoming contract situation will represent what has always made me skeptical of the idea of exclusively building through the draft.

According to the reported 76ers-Mavericks trade, Bogut, Mavs forward Justin Anderson and a conditional first-round pick would be sent to Philadelphia for Nerlens Noel.

The Mavericks acquired Noel for Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a protected first-round draft pick. Hopefully Bryan Colangelo has a bigger picture in mind because, for right now, it looks like the Sixers are heading back to the road they've been on for the past few years.

Embiid, apparently at least half-jokingly, on his 1-on-1 game with teammate Dario Saric in which each declared victory: "He doesn't like playing me". This has stemmed from the team's significant depth at the position having both lottery picks in Nerlens Noel and Joel Embiid. Anderson seems to be the key piece in the return for Noel. They had to wait two full seasons for Embiid's broken foot to heal. He held onto Nerlens Noel and Jahlil Okafor through the summer, despite having an offer from Boston for Noel that was superior to the one he took from Dallas, and attempted to justify it by saying the injury situation made them hard to deal. The latest teams that are still cramming to push a trade are the Sixers, the Lakers, and the Knicks. There is a "reacquisition" rule that prevents former teams from acquire players they traded, but it doesn't apply in this situation.

DeMarcus Cousins traded to Pelicans for Buddy Hield, Tyreke Evans, two picks
What better way to accelerate the future than allowing two franchise big men to exponentiate their multidimensional talent? The only saving grace for this trade is that the Kings get a pair of draft picks in what should be a deep draft.

Meanwhile, Noel can go a long way to furthering the Mavs' improved defense. The Mavericks can match any offer and they have a solid relationship with his agent, Dan Fegan. The 76ers will work on finding a trade partner for the veteran center before the deadline. This was more of a case of the Sixers taking an expensive contract off the Mavericks' hands.

One thing to consider: If the Sixers can't find a deal for Bogut, they might buy him out. Financially, the deal makes sense for Philadelphia.

As for the Sixers, a run to the postseason is still likely a season away. Daily News says that they may rather wait for George to be a free agent than to close a trade deal.
