Planned Parenthood rejects Trump proposal to stop abortion services

The Trump Administration told Planned Parenthood officials that they could keep their federal funding if they stopped providing abortion services, an informal proposal the women's health organization rejected.

Planned Parenthood now receives 40% of its operating budget-or around $500 million-from the federal government, none of which can be used for abortion services thanks to the Hyde Amendment.

During the campaign period, Trump had spoken favorably about Planned Parenthood's work, saying millions of women have benefited from its services such as cancer screenings.

Sen. Andrew A. Serafini (R-Washington), a member of the Senate Budget and Taxation Committee, which must approve the bill for it to advance, said he opposed the funding because Planned Parenthood provides women with abortion, among other health services. The new Republican-sponsored American Healthcare Act that would repeal and replace Obamacare would defund Planned Parenthood, which provides health services to over 2 and a half million women every year.

Rose says with the support of President Trump and a conservative-controlled Congress, the pro-life movement is closer than it's ever been to cutting off funding for Planned Parenthood.

"So, this is a time when we should be doubling down on family panning in America and not rolling back access to care", the president said if the concern is to continue to cut back the number of abortions. Revoking said support would result in around 400,000 USA women losing access to the group's health care, according to the Catholic Herald. Their pro-abortion bill comes in reaction to federal legislation that would defund the abortion giant of almost half a billion tax dollars each year.

Thoughts on Day One of the NFL Combine
The thing about Jackson is that anyone who ever saw him play would probably agree that a 4.13 was well within his limits. But he is a sound tackler with closing speed and hustle who just gets flat footed in coverage at times.

- Cecile Richards (@CecileRichards) March 6, 2017We believe protecting the ability of women to determine our own futures is not only a Planned Parenthood value - it's an American value. "Providing critical health care services for millions of American women is non-negotiable". Each of those people would need to donate $6.10 to offset Planned Parenthood's loss of federal funding in a year.

The deal was, if Planned Parenthood would stop performing abortion services, the nonprofit could maintain its federal funding. Call it $7 to account for a little growth between 2015 (the latest Planned Parenthood annual report available) and 2017.

Except in very rare instances, no federal money pays for abortions, a fact that underlies the illogic of the Republicans' ideological attack on the organization.

"I would love for Larry Hogan to stop being silent", Madaleno said.

Another reminder: The defunding of Planned Parenthood is a bad idea.

What he's trying to do is use the threat of losing federal funds to prevent Planned Parenthood from even using private funds on abortions.
