Trump reveals first federal budget

The blueprint also includes a 2017 supplemental request of $1.4 billion to fund the initial developments for Mr. Trump's plan for a wall along the U.S. -Mexico border.

The winners in Trump's proposed budget are the Defense Department which would see a $52.3 billion increase, the Department of Veteran's Affairs which would see a $4.4 billion increase and the Department of HomelandSsecurity which will see a $2.8 billion increase.

States have to balance their budgets each year, unlike the federal government, and Perdue had to do so through two recessions during the 2000s.

That cash injection would then be offset by cuts to more than 18 other government agencies and discretionary spending programmes.

The president's annual wish list known as the "skinny budget" - which still has to go through the gargantuan approval process - does have some telling nuggets about where the White House would like to shift funds.

McCain and Thornberry have blasted the figure as inadequate for the military to rebound from the effects of the Budget Control Act, legislation passed in 2011 that set federal spending caps and held down the defense budget. Some lawmakers, including Sen.

Trump's rural base did not escape cuts. So, what does Trump's budget proposal cut?

President Donald Trump sends Congress a proposed budget this week that will sharply test Republicans' ability to keep long-standing promises to bolster the military, making politically painful cuts to a lengthy list of popular domestic programs.

President Trump's budget for 2018 will slash funding on everything from Big Bird to foreign aid, while boosting support for the Pentagon and the construction of a border wall, the White House said Wednesday. The department will hire 500 new border patrol agents and 1,000 new immigration and customs agents. In order to pay for a wall on the southern border and heightened operations against the Islamic State, his administration is reportedly looking for substantial cuts to nondefense programs.

Trump wants $500 million more to spend on opioid addiction prevention and treatment; and he wants $1.4 billion more to expand school choice programs.

The Walking Dead Season 7 Episode 13 "Bury Me Here" Recap
I really do like Carol's unlikely "friendship" with Morgan , and I hope they continue to be close, even as Morgan goes into exile. Taking these words to its extreme, Morgan stick-whacked and strangled Richard to death in front of Ezekiel and the Saviors.

"The next question is going to be: How many miles of wall will that build?"

The last few days have been politically tumultuous. But Trump's budget is so tight outside of spending on national security and defense matters that the Social Security Administration was lucky to escape with a minuscule increase.

While there are times when some belt tightening is necessary, the danger is that the reduction may be too radical and do more harm than good.

Such programs were the focus of lengthy battles dating to the GOP takeover of Congress in 1995 and have survived prior attempts to eliminate them.

Department of State and USAID - 29% decrease.

"Consistent with the President's America First Energy Plan, the budget reorients the EPA's air program to protect the air we breathe without unduly burdening the American economy", a summary of the agency's proposed budget said. But there would also be sharp reductions in United Nations peacekeeping activities and climate change programs. Trump's team, the Hill reports, is looking to reduce federal spending by $10.5 trillion over the next 10 years.

Department of Agriculture - 21% decrease.

The spending increases on the administration's policy priorities will be matched dollar for dollar with spending reductions on other programs. And it eliminates $5.8bn from the National Institutes of Health, which carries out biomedical and health research. He has repeatedly vowed to improve struggling cities like Baltimore and Detroit, and has suggested much of that work would be accomplished through the Department of Housing and Urban Development. Trump requested $40.7 billion, down $6.2 billion of this year.

Trump's budget options are already being hemmed in by decisions on health care. It also generally calls for the elimination of a number of major programs, including the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, which helps fund stations like PBS and NPR.
