Senator Tim Kaine to Filibuster Supreme Court Nominee

It would be a highly controversial decision that would permanently change the rules for how Supreme Court nominees are confirmed.

Unlike last week's drama over Obamacare in the House, the votes in the Gorsuch drama will be known. "I don't know what the polls say about this, but I do know this". In an interview with CNN, Collins stopped short of saying whether she would vote for the rule change. John Cornyn, R-Texas, said.

Reiterating that he is "enthusiastically supporting" Judge Neil Gorsuch to fill the U.S. Supreme Court vacancy, Republican U.S. Sen.

It doesn't help Democrats case that Gorsuch is not only capable, but likable. "And they are mad that they are having to consider a judge nominated by a Republican president".

In 2013, Democrats were in the majority under the leadership of Sen. Joe Manchin, who has long opposed filibustering the nominee. You don't have to be a judge or even a lawyer.

Since Republican outnumber Democrats 52 to 48 in the Senate, eight Democrats must support Gorsuch for him to be confirmed.

"Kaine went on to say Gorsuch has taken "extraordinary steps to force reconsideration of rulings that preserve access to reproductive health".

But that was just an excuse - a gamble - that a Republican would win in November and conservatives could put their stamp on the court, now at a 4-4 split between conservative- and liberal-leaning justices. Joe Donnelly of IN, all of who have been mum this week on where they're leaning. Pat Toomey scolded Democratic senators for making political arguments against President Donald Trump's nominee.

Democrats filibuster push is being fueled by far-left activists.

"Across issues, the Republican agenda represents handouts to giant corporations and the rich while a populist progressive agenda fights for the little guy", said Progressive caucus co-founder Adam Green.

"Why would they sully themselves with their base to vote not to filibuster?" It was Mitch McConnell and the Republicans who didn't even get to the filibuster point with Merrick Garland. The founding fathers were very clear in what they thought there should be supermajorities [for]. "Once it's been used once, it's going to be used time and time again".

"There's Republicans still very mad at us over the 2013 change to the filibuster rule".

"Uh, yes", said Inhofe, nearly surprised by the question. We'll see where that ends. "They're wrong. As I said, the answer is not to change the rules, it's to change the nominee". "As I said, [Gorsuch] is going to be confirmed and America should be rejoicing".

Schumer said the idea of Republicans changing Senate rules to confirm Gorsuch is "utter bunk". "Americans deserve to know who is funding this effort to get Judge Gorsuch on the highest bench in the land", he added. Under the process of cloture a 51-vote majority is required to confirm a justice.

This means it's expected Minnesota's two DFL Senators will vote "no" against Gorsuch, whose confirmation vote is expected to be held within the next week.

MSNBC's Chuck Todd called out Sen. He would only need a simple majority on that final vote.
