Pence casts tie-breaking vote that could cut Planned Parenthood grants

Lisa Murkowski, R-AK, voted against allowing a vote on the bill.

"I want Senate Republicans who are about to take this vote, and Vice President Pence, to be very clear on what they are about to do", Washington Democrat Sen.

Republican Senators Susan Collins of ME and Lisa Murkowski of Alaska crossed party lines to vote against the measure, resulting in the 50-50 tie.

Vice President Mike Pence seems bound and determined to limit women's ability to have an abortion, even if it comes at the cost of revoking funding for family planning services and women's preventive health services.

Republicans accelerated their efforts in 2015 to restrict government funding of Planned Parenthood after an anti-abortion group secretly videotaped Planned Parenthood's medical director discussing reimbursement for tissue and organs harvested from aborted fetuses.

The rule took effect January 18, two days before President Barack Obama left office.

The measure passed the House 230-188 in February on a mostly party-line vote, with just two Republicans in that chamber voting against the bill. "We'll see Roe v. Wade consigned to the ash heap of history where it belongs". Joni Ernst (R-IA) sponsored the measure in the Senate. Blocking federal funds from supporting those services means over 4.1 million Americans could go without them, according to Planned Parenthood's website.

Democrats said the resolution was an attack on women's health, contending the rollback will make it harder for low-income and rural women to obtain screenings for cancer and other diseases, as well as contraception.

Lawmakers on Capitol Hill have handed pro-life groups a victory.

Gordon said. "It's an opportunity that not a lot of people get to partake in and for me it was just like a no-brainer, honestly". There may not be a team anywhere that can play passing lanes as well as UConn ... well, maybe except Mississippi State itself.

During remarks on the Senate floor, Sen.

Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer warned Republicans against repealing the rule, thereby limiting women's access to care in some areas.

Planned Parenthood of the Rocky Mountains includes clinics in Colorado, New Mexico, Wyoming and Las Vegas.

With Planned Parenthood, women have access to such information and support.

Many people are "voiceless in these halls", said Blumenthal.

Planned Parenthood slammed the bill, saying it could potentially encourage states to discriminate against family planning healthcare providers that provide abortions.

Whether it's in their phrasing or omissions, the networks aren't backing down in their defense of America's largest abortion provider.

Divisions over Planned Parenthood could also be a major sticking point in upcoming negotiations to fund the government, which is set to run out of money at the end of April. The resolution uses the Congressional Review Act to rescind the Obama administration rule. Sen. It would bar states from denying federal family planning funds to organizations like Planned Parenthood that also perform abortions. From Vice President Mike Pence's unusual abhorrence towards dining alone with women, President Donald Trump's many golf trips, and Ivanka Trump being given an official White House position, keeping up with the Trump administration hasn't been as easy task lately.
