Trump tells Abe all options on table to handle N. Korea

Today, Trump was scheduled to meet with Chinese President Xi Jinping.

A government watchdog will examine the taxpayer-funded travel costs when President Donald Trump travels to the Mar-a-Lago resort in Florida and the security procedures surrounding those trips, several congressional Democrats announced Tuesday, March 28, 2017.

Mr Trump is due to arrive in Florida later.

Observers believe the countdowns have finally begun on North Korea's sixth nuclear test and the launch of intercontinental ballistic missiles (ICBMs), regarding which Japan, the United States and South Korea are on particular alert.

South Korea has successfully test-fired a home-developed ballistic missile with a range long enough to hit any part of North Korea, Yonhap news agency reported Thursday. North Korea could develop a nuclear-tipped missile that can strike America within a few years.

Last week, the president predicted in a tweet that his meeting with Mr Xi would be "very difficult".

But if he's bluffing, and Xi calls him on it, that might prove damaging in future negotiations with China or in building a united front against North Korea's nuclear and missile programs.

In her comments, Wang referenced recent remarks by State Department and White House officials that they would hold to their assurances to Taiwan under a USA law that established strong unofficial relations following the severing of diplomatic ties in 1979.

Instead, for USA businesses, the real points of friction with China revolve around protectionist rules and regulations that shelter Chinese industry from American competition.

In addition, the South Korean firm has only a few months to make a splash until rival Apple releases its iPhone 8 later this year. And if that isn't enough storage, there is still a micro SD card slot available, to expand the storage further if needed.

However, White House officials have set expectations low for the meeting.

"It would be hard to come up with a credible standard that would catch China in the net", said David Dollar, a former U.S. Treasury economic liaison to China who is now a senior fellow at the Washington-based Brookings Institution. The agenda will include urgent items such as North Korea's rising aggression and nuclear capabilities and China's controversial trade practices.

The situation in North Korea has appeared to push the South China Sea issue onto the back burner for now, but Trump is expected to air US concerns.

With Trump threatening to pull out of the Paris climate accord negotiated by the Obama administration, Xi is poised to become the world's foremost leader on climate change.

He added that Seoul and Washington are also arranging a visit by U.S. Vice President Mike Pence to Korea. Speaking ahead of the release, the bank's president Mario Draghi said he thinks the bank's current policy is working.

Noting that the first Xi-Trump meeting takes place just two and a half months after Trump assumed office, Robert Hormats, vice chairman of Kissinger Associates, an global consulting firm based in New York City, said such an early tete-a-tete will not only benefit both countries, but also serve "multilateral interests".

The North is economically reliant on its sole ally Beijing, and Washington has long pushed China to use its leverage to punish the hermit state.

He "cannot afford to lose face while China aspires to be the new centre of gravity for the world order", China political analyst Willy Lam told AFP.

The EU has steadily increased its sanctions against North Korea, the previous move coming in late February with Pyongyang in the spotlight after the assassination at the Kuala Lumpur airport of Kim Jong-Nam, the estranged half-brother of leader Kim Jong-Un.
