Finally! Spain hails favourite son Garcia after Masters win

Justin Rose congratulates his friend Garcia after failing to win his first Masters title on Sunday

Sergio Garcia is the proud owner of a nice new green jacket after his dramatic win at the Masters on Sunday. A memorable cut-and-thrust final-round duel with Tiger Woods at the USPGA Championships where two of golf's young saviours would do battle but Woods emerged victorious. "I think we've always known that Sergio is kind of an emotional on and off the golf course kind of guy and when it's all clicking, he's one of the best in the world", Rose added.

Sergio Garcia's glorious Masters win was down to his brilliant save in the 13th hole, claims Jack Nicklaus. "This is a tournament I am going to win one day", Rose said "I've been in the last group a couple of times and shot 14-under when Jordan [Spieth] won".

"I don't know if it hasn't sunk in or something but it doesn't feel that different".

Not since Spain's Jose Maria Olazabal in 1994 had a Masters champion eagled on the back nine in the final round.

"It's an fantastic feeling to be part of that group with Seve [Ballesteros] and Jose Maria [Olazabal], my two golfing idols".

"I would say this one is one that slipped by, for sure", said the Olympic gold medallist, who was looking to become the first European player to win the Masters and US Open.

"Not at all, not in the least bit", he said. He's a great man.

South Carolina wins 1st national title, beats Miss St 67-55
For two whole minutes, neither team scored since the start of the fourth quarter till Mississippi St made the first bucket. Wilson admitted to being frustrated by Stanford's physical play, and Mississippi State will try to frustrate USC, as well.

Triumph finally came after his 12-foot birdie putt on Augusta's par-four 18th at the first hole of a play-off against Justin Rose.

Garcia and Rose both carded 69 to finish tied on nine-under-par 279 at the end of regulation and send the year's first major to a playoff when both missed birdie putts and settled for pars at the 72nd hole.

However, he kept his nerve in the play-off, winning with a birdie to Rose's bogey. Since emerging on the scene in the 1999 PGA Championship with his legendary "behind the tree shot", Garcia has been a constant contender on the tour. Garcia was golf's great hope who became golf's great almost man.

He told news.com: "Once again a camera got a close-up of when he took the drop and he was moving a few pine needles and the ball moved just ever so slightly". I think I learned so much. Matt Kuchar made a hole-in-one on the 16th that gave him hope but not for very long.

"I knew what I was capable of doing, and I believed that I could do it", he said. I feel before Sunday I had a good career, but now obviously it is much better.

So he can look forward to more major victories - and a wedding in July.

"There is a good team behind him, a real belief and with the monkey off his back I wouldn't be surprised if it led to major number two, three or even four". I felt fantastic out there. "I felt positive. I felt confident".
