Chilling dystopian drama "The Handmaid's Tale" premieres on Hulu

The Handmaid's Tale is the "most chilling Trump era series", said Phoebe Reilly in Rolling Stone, adding that sales of Atwood's book rocketed after Donald Trump was elected. "She's surviving in something she created", states Strahovski, referring to how instrumental Serena Joy was in making Gilead.

The concern over the term "feminism" kicked into high gear over the weekend after a panel at Tribeca in which Moss, who identifies as a feminist, appeared to eschew the label when applied to the story Hulu intends to tell on the show.

"I'm not sure that that was exactly what I was trying to say, or what we were trying to say", Moss told HuffPost on Tuesday. The crowds spilled out over two floors and into the mall; many in attendance held copies of the new tie-in edition of the book, which features key art from the television adaptation launching in Canada on April 30 (Bravo). "It just felt like a really good fit".

MARGARET ATWOOD: I could, but I would have to make it plausible, would I not?

In fact, it wasn't until much later, after she finished filming, that she realized how close to home the subject matter of the series hit. I think it's going to shock some people at how hard it is to imagine people living in such a world like this one, because as Margaret Atwood has said, she didn't make anything up. It's not so insane, the things that are happening in the book. It gives it a frighteningly real aspect.

"I find myself getting slightly tripped up because I am a feminist, and I'm not ashamed of it", she said. Miller notes that Atwood "is a very thoughtful person in terms of constructing a plot, so the decisions she made were ones that work for the show".

Your new TV obsession is coming out Wednesday.

Moss' problem, says Atwood, "is to show someone who is unable to speak out, because it's too unsafe, but who has to convey to the audience those emotions she is suppressing".

"I think right now we think that, 'Well, this can't happen.' And then it does". Then I [had] to just walk away. And a really personal one.

Netflix series '13 Reasons Why' sparks conversation about mental health
In New York, a letter sent by administrators at the Ethical Culture Fieldston School, also warned parents about the show. All of the things that the show portrays are real and they affect people around us every single day.

The Gilmore Girls star was styled in a sparkly, '90s-inspired halter dress, which was a severe contrast to her character's period clothing. I'm so proud of that character. In their society women aren't allowed literacy or freedom, subordinating even their names to the patriarchy (Elisabeth Moss plays Offred, or "Of Fred").

Brewer said her character is a bit "prickly, but likeable".

Further pulling back from the word was costar Madeline Brewer (Tricia from Orange Is the New Black's first season), who plays the true believer handmaid Janine. "She knocked my little cap off", Moss says with a laugh. "She doesn't succumb. You'll be proud".

The world of Gilead isn't quite fleshed out but we get the gist of it from subtle details.

"And Rita has a lot of secrets, as do most of the characters in 'The Handmaid's Tale.' But she's very dark, sombre". She also knows that there are probably unimaginable horrors that she doesn't know about. It was my one genuine laugh during the episode.

This means her interactions with everyone in the present are prickly and uncomfortable. It's raw, gutting and a masterpiece all because of Bledel's performance. "Ofglen has the feeling of waking up and not knowing what happened to her". It's not like it's the clearest description. This government is capable of anything.

ELISABETH MOSS: There's a huge sort of awakening amongst people my age and people in their 20s and younger with what's happening now, as far as, oh, wait, someone can actually take that away from us?

"I met them all when they came into town, including the designer". "And we've seen that: When fertility becomes an issue, racism starts to fall because people adopt kids from Ethiopia and Asian countries and from everywhere".

The show does the novel great justice, and even improves on the source material as it updates with the times.
