Athens politicians react to House passage of health care bill

The nonpartisan Cook Political Report changed the status of 20 different Republican-held house seats toward potential Democratic pickups after the vote.

Reince Priebus (ryns PREE'-bus) tells "Fox News Sunday" that he thinks "the Republican Party will be rewarded" when the health care legislation to replace President Barack Obama's overhaul becomes law.

That might seem self-evident, as it's exactly what Republicans have been saying the past six years. To them, we're just individual consumers who deserve the best deal we can get for ourselves.

But one of the most upsetting and shocking parts of Trump's new American Health Care Act?

"If we're going reduce the cost of health insurance, we have to take steps to reduce the costs of health care".

Ken and Lisa Janke are among millions of Americans who have pre-existing medical conditions and could face higher insurance costs if the American Health Care Act is signed into law.

Ryan argued that Republicans were keeping their work to repeal and replace Obamacare.

Eager to check off a top campaign promise, Trump sought Sunday to pressure Senate Republicans on the issue.

"You'll have better healthcare at a lower cost", President Trump said during his weekly address.

Even if Republicans manage to get their ACA repeal bill through the Senate, they'll have to reconcile differences between Senate and House versions, meaning the House will have to do this all over again.

But Schick is anxious what will happen to her insurance, when she moves off her parents' plan with her now pre-existing condition.

Mr Trump declared victory, but it could be short-lived. So this bill got over the top in the House with the promise to be fixed in the Senate.

Even though the bill has passed the House, there are major roadblocks ahead in the Senate, where the bill is expected to undergo significant changes.

As it turns out, Australia has universal healthcare - run by the government.

Last week House Republicans approved a health care law created to replace Obama's law, commonly called "Obamacare".

But despite holding the White House and controlling both houses of Congress, Republicans have found overturning Obamacare politically perilous, partly because of voter fears, loudly expressed at constituents' town-hall meetings, that many people would lose their health insurance as a result. Enter The Hangover. Taking on the roles of Ed Helms' Stu, Bradley Cooper's Phil, and Mike Tyson's tiger are House Majority Leader Kevin McCarthy, Speaker of the House Paul Ryan, and President Trump, respectively.

Unlike House Republicans, senators have said they want to know what the full impact of Trumpcare will be before they vote on it.

They accuse Republicans of seeking tax cuts for the rich, partly paid for by cutting health benefits. The Affordable Care Act, which remains in place, does not permit this.

Say what you will about Obamacare, but the law's goal was to make medical care available to everyone.

Insurers have generally considered conditions treated within three months of the start of coverage to be pre-existing, health care industry consultant Robert Laszewski said.

"Of course, we kid", said Colbert.
