2nd victim dead after woman drives into oncoming traffic on United States 50

A fatal crash on Wednesday afternoon closed part of U.S. 50 eastbound near Annapolis

"So that's why we're asking people if they happened to see her, driving this black Volkswagen, get on 50 in the wrong direction, please call the barracks", Maryland State Police spokeswoman Elena Russo said.

The crash occurred about 1:30 p.m. Wednesday on Route 50 in Annapolis.

Police say the woman who was killed in the crash was driving in the opposite direction on the eastbound lanes of Route 50 when she struck another vehicle.

A 20-year-old woman from Sagamore Beach was pronounced dead at the scene. Her son was transported to Johns Hopkins Pediatric.

A third auto was also involved in the accident, but no one inside the vehicle was injured, police say. He was flown to Shock Trauma, police said.

A third auto was also involved in the crash and was driven by Anthony Stanley, 59, of Bowie, Md.

Overblown claim on new China trade deal
China is turning more to natural gas as a way to reduce its dependence on coal and combat the country's extensive air pollution. Ricketts on Friday applauded news that China would allow American beef into the country for the first time since 2003.

A double yellow line extends the length of the road, however, the west end of the road is connected to an exit ramp off of Route 50 for eastbound travelers meant only for one-way traffic. For unknown reasons at this time, Murphy was driving westbound in the eastbound lanes of Route 50 in Annapolis.

State police said that thanks to 911 calls just before the fatal crash, investigators have been able to narrow down the possible point of entry to the highway.

Annapolis traffic was hit particularly hard as police redirected cars trying to get on Route 50 to the Naval Academy Bridge through downtown Annapolis. MDOT State Highway Administration personnel assisted on the scene with lane closures and detours.

Murphy's vehicle crashed head-on with the Mercedes SUV, which came to rest on the side of the highway in a wooded area.

The Maryland State Police Crash Team has responded and will be conducting a detailed crash reconstruction. Westbound Route 50 is open to traffic.

The cause remains under investigation.
