Parents of freed Nigeria schoolgirls still wait to see them

Girls who escaped Boko Haram shortly after the 2014 mass kidnapping said some of their classmates had died from illness.

Finally, some more of the Chibok schoolgirls are coming home.

She was among 83 teenagers who Boko Haram jihadists had agreed to release at the weekend but only 82 came back, said a spokesman for Nigerian president Muhammadu Buhari.

Tsambido said some politicians from Borno State were allowed to see the girls, who are now in the custody of the Department of State Services, lamenting that Chibok leaders, resident in Abuja, were denied access to the girls. "They will then organize to bring the parents to Abuja to see their daughters", he said. Nigeria's government exchanged them for five detained Boko Haram commanders. He says he can not travel the long distance from his home in northern Nigeria to the capital without the government's invitation and assurance that he will see her.

Numerous girls have managed to escape or been freed since then, but more than 100 are still missing.

Talks are understood to have started to free all or some of the remaining 113. "I really want to see my daughter, but I can't come unless with government invitation". This leaves the family on edge as they do not know if Sarah was among those released especially as the girls are yet to be reconnected with their families.
