Melbourne Tullamarine Airport, Australia's second-busiest airport, was closed for hours overnight as armed tactical officers swept Malaysia Airlines Flight MH128, which had been bound for Kuala Lumpur, as well as the airport, officials said.

The airline says Flight MH128 has successfully landed at Melbourne Airport and is now waiting for security assistance.

MH128 landed safely at Melbourne Airport at 11.41pm, the company said.

Victoria police released a statement which confirmed the incident and that no one was hurt.

The wife of another man who was on the plane said passengers and crew helped to tie the aggressive passenger down after he attacked an air hostess.

A Malaysia Airlines flight was grounded in Melbourne last night after a "lunatic" passenger tried to storm the cockpit and threatened to blow up the plane.

The flight landed back in Melbourne just 30 minutes after its scheduled take-off.

Passengers who were onboard MH128 however are still in Melbourne Airport with their bags still on the flight.

Kansas lawmakers prepare to debate tax hikes, school funding
At 1am on Wednesday, the Senate voted 21-10 to attach an amendment to an unrelated bill about county governments. Patrick Toomey, R-Pa., said of the report by lawmakers' nonpartisan fiscal experts.

Mr Kaprawi said: "It is not a hijack. But it was not a bomb but a powerbank", Aziz added.

The passengers reportedly overpowered the man after he claimed to have explosives.

"He was taken out of the plane handcuffed by Australian security officers".

MH370 disappeared in March 2014, while another passenger jet, MH17, was shot down in July of the same year while flying over Ukraine in twin tragedies to hit Malaysia s national carrier. Malaysia Airlines together with the Australian authorities will be investigating the incident.

"Safety and security are of utmost priority to Malaysia Airlines".

The passengers have disembarked the aircraft in the meantime and have been taken to hotels.

Melbourne Airport remains in a lockdown over the incident and all flights headed there have been diverted to other airports. "At the moment, the airline does not wish to make any premature conclusions until a full investigation has been concluded".
