Title contenders Saina Nehwal and B. Sai Praneeth advanced to the quarter-finals of the $1,20,000 Thailand Open badminton tournament after notching up straight-game victories in the women's and men's singles competition respectively here on Thursday. Praneeth comfortably beat the Thai teenager 21-16 21-17 in the men's singles event in 50 minutes to set up a semi-final clash against the victor of Tanongsak Saensomboonsuk and Pannawit Thongnuam. The third-seeded Indian maintained his lead throughout the match and never gave his World No. 102-ranked opponent a chance to get back in the match. After winning the first game easily, she was leading 11-6 in the second. But Praneeth closed the gap and reduced the deficit to one point at the break.

Saina and Praneeth are the only two Indians left in the tournament.

She came back stronger in the second game and made the second seed sweat for her points.

Saina goes down fighting against Busanan.

Woakes ruled out of Champions Trophy with side strain
Then even if our bowlers conceded 60 extra runs but picked up wickets we could have stayed alive. That was in his right leg, and his subsequent side strain is on the other side of his body.

Praneeth also dished out a dominating show to thrash ninth seed Malaysian Iskandar Zulkarnain 21-13 21-18.

By then, Saina had found her rhythm and her range as she started calling the shots to race to a 11-8 advantage.

It was a disappointing day for Saina because she had won a tough quarterfinal match on Friday.

Both players have met thrice in the past, and the ace Indian shuttler has won all of those matches.
