Ambassador Kislyak Doing His Job, Had No 'Sessions' With US Officials - Putin

Putin made the remarks about Michael Flynn in an interview conducted in Moscow on Friday with NBC's Megyn Kelly, which will be broadcast Sunday night.

The two sat next to each other during an event to celebrate Russia's RT network.

Putin said that he had not sat in the seat for much of the dinner, and that he barely spoke to Flynn. And I got up and left. There was a time when he used to come to Moscow, but you know, I never met with him. He was involved in some things.

"This useless and harmful chatter needs to stop", the Kremlin strongman said. "That's the extent of my acquaintance with Mr Flynn".

American hackers could have planted false evidence that Russian Federation interfered in the U.S. presidential election, says President Vladimir Putin in his latest speculation about the source of embarrassing Clinton campaign emails leaked during last year's election.

Trump also said in an interview that he was thinking of "this Russian Federation thing" when he made a decision to fire Comey.

Flynn has become a central figure in investigations by Congress and the FBI into potential ties to Russian Federation by the Trump administration and his campaign.

Retired Lt. Gen. Flynn served as an adviser to Trump's presidential campaign, and then served as President Donald Trump's national security adviser in the White House for less than a month before he was sacked for what the administration said was lying about his conversations with Russian Ambassador Sergey Kislyak to Vice President Mike Pence.

In addition to his ties to Russia, Flynn is also under another FBI investigation for failing to disclose that he had worked as a paid lobbyist for Turkey.

Trump has strongly defended Flynn, saying his former aide was the victim of a witch hunt. The public hearing is expected to shed light on his private conversations with Trump in the weeks before his dismissal, including one discussion in which Trump allegedly asked Comey to drop an investigation of former national security adviser Michael Flynn and his Russian contacts.

Putin minimised his contact with Flynn, who was sacked by Trump in February after offering misleading descriptions of conversations he had had before the inauguration with ambassador Kislyak.

"He's a good guy", Trump told Comey, according to a memo Comey wrote shortly after the meeting. He quotes Mr Trump as saying, "I hope you can let this go".

The president added that he had not talked to the ambassador about with meetings with the members of Trump team. Trump's known to change his mind on major issues. Flynn previously said during an interview in 2016 that "when you are given immunity, that means you probably committed a crime".

Flynn has declined to testify to the U.S. Senate Intelligence Committee about his Russian ties, invoking his constitutional right to avoid self-incrimination.
