$3.8 billion Dakota Access oil pipeline begins service

The controversial Dakota Access pipeline has started carrying oil between North Dakota and IL, its owner said Thursday. Several Native American tribes also said the pipeline would destroy burial and prayer sites as well as culturally significant artifacts.

Three state regulators that make up the North Dakota Public Service Commission decided on Wednesday to hold hearings in July or August on back-to-back days, in order to determine if Texas-based Energy Transfer Partners improperly removed trees and shrubbery along its Dakota Access Pipeline (DAPL) path, according to the Associated Press. Dakota Access and the Energy Transfer Crude Oil Pipeline from IL to the Gulf Coast together make up the $4.8 billion Bakken Pipeline system, which ETP said has commitments for about 520,000 barrels of oil daily.

The commission maintains the company diverted construction of the pipeline around artifacts last October without first running the plan by the commission, as required.

The Dakota Access and ETCO pipeline systems have commitments that include shipper flexibility and walk-up, for about 520,000 barrels per day.

Draft UN resolution would add 15 North Koreans to blacklist
Any new names added to the United Nations blacklist would be subjected to a global asset freeze and travel ban. The center is said to have offices in Germany, China, Syria, India and the Middle East, Treasury said.

The developer of the Dakota Access oil pipeline, which is expected to begin shipping oil on Thursday, will face scrutiny later this summer on whether it violated North Dakota rules during construction.

The 700-mile and 30-inch ETCO pipeline on the other hand is a natural gas pipeline from Patoka in IL to Nederland in Texas where the crude oil is refined or further transported to more refining markets.

Meanwhile, four Native American tribes in the Dakotas are still fighting in court, hoping to persuade a judge to shut down the line.

President Donald Trump eventually overturned his predecessor's memo, essentially clearing the way for the project to resume unimpeded. Protestors, most notably including the Standing Rock Sioux tribe, fought against the pipeline because they claimed its route beneath Missouri River reservoir Lake Oahe would threaten the tribe's water source and run through sacred land.
