London Bridge attack: Three French victims among dead

Former U.S. Director of National Intelligence Jim Clapper said in a speech to Australia's National Press Club: "Unfortunately, on a serious note, I am compelled to acknowledge the tragic loss of two Australian citizens in the mindless, heinous terrorist attack in London".

The current death toll stands at seven people after three assailants wearing fake suicide vests mowed down pedestrians on London Bridge and launched a stabbing spree in bars in nearby Borough Market.

"Detectives investigating the terrorist attack in London Bridge on Saturday, 3 June, can confirm the number of people that were killed as a result of the attack is now eight". Of the 48 admitted to hospital, 29 were still being cared for, NHS England said.

A former US intelligence official has offered his nation's condolences to three Australians killed in attacks in London and Melbourne, Australia.

Thomas had been strolling across London Bridge with his girlfriend, Christine Delcros, during a weekend visit when they were struck.

Australian Sara Zelenak died after becoming separated from her friend.

The Metropolitan Police confirmed the au pair, who lived and worked in London, was among the dead.

In a statement, they said they are "deeply saddened at the tragic loss of our lovely daughter".

Spanish banker Ignacio Echeverria (39), was killed after trying to defend a woman with his skateboard in the Borough Market area.

Sebastien Belanger, 36, and Alexandre Pigeard, 27, also died in the attack.

According to French media, Mr Pigeard was from Caen, in Normandy, but had been living in London for more than two years.

Fernando Vergara said families of the victims "feel mistreated by lack of information".

Police identified the three attackers as Khuram Butt, 27, Rachid Redouane, 30, and 22-year-old Moroccan-Italian Youssef Zaghba.
