Comey Hearing Suggests Obstruction of Justice Investigation Is More Plausible

"I had to call my wife and break a date with her", Comey said. "James Comey better hope that there are no "tapes" of our conversations before he starts leaking to the press!"

Under questioning Thursday, Comey strongly asserted the intelligence community's conclusion that Russian Federation did indeed meddle in the 2016 election. Comey injected a moment of levity, exclaiming, "Lordy, I hope there are tapes!"

Reading the statement Trump lawyer Marc Kasowitz released in response to James Comey's testimony before the Senate Intelligence Committee, much of it is what you'd expect. Then on Friday morning, the program focused on Comey's revelation that he had asked a friend to provide The New York Times with the contents of the memos he had written on his meetings with President Trump rather than what had actually happened during those meetings.

That being said, he also testified he felt the best way to "protect the credibility" of the Russian investigation was to take explicit notes of his weird conversations with the president. The president invited Mr. Comey to a private dinner. But Trump supporters can argue that the president's hand was strengthened by Thursday's "Super Bowl" hearing.

In a statement emailed to reporters, Rep. Evan Jenkins, R-W.Va., knocked committee members as grandstanding and stopped just short of calling Comey a liar. He is a good guy.

"I believe he's [Comey] going to give more proof to the obstruction of justice", he said.

Ryan said Trump's continued insistence to drop the investigation was due to his inexperience.

Comey is far from flawless, but it is the nature of the lifelong lawman to seek the truth, often obsessively.

Chilling Confession Leads To Child's Body
Louis Post-Dispatch and several others report that the child was six, while other outlets say the child was seven years old. Belleville police said in a statement that a team of officers was sent to Las Vegas to coordinate the investigation.

"When I was appointed Federal Bureau of Investigation director in 2013, I understood that I served at the pleasure of the president", Mr Comey told the Senate Intelligence Committee in one of the most widely anticipated U.S. congressional hearing in years.

That Trump is an outside-the-box president is beyond dispute. "The president never, in form or substance, directed or suggested that Mr. Comey stop investigating anyone, including suggesting that that Mr. Comey "let Flynn go, ' " he said".

Mr Trump initially said Mr Comey had lost the faith of his workforce, but later suggested that his dismissal was related to the Russian Federation investigation.

Trump was expected to face journalists later Friday in a joint news conference with Romanian President Klaus Iohannis, who is visiting the White House.

This, despite Mr. Comey testifying that he understood that the president had the right to fire him at any time for any reason - or for no reason whatsoever.

Kasowitz goes on to suggest that the authorities should look into Comey's leak, presumably to see if laws were broken, even though no one up until now has suggested that as a private citizen (which is what he was at the time) he could not give his personal notes to the press or anyone else. Lawmakers have the authority to decide whether interfering with a lawful investigation constitutes sufficient grounds for impeachment even if not for criminal prosecution. Comey did not say why he found fault with the article but said standard procedure among USA intelligence officials is not to contest inaccurate stories based on classified information.

Thursday's hearing included discussion of that email investigation, as Comey disclosed that then-Attorney General Loretta Lynch instructed him to refer to the issue as a "matter", not an "investigation". What we got at the hearing was the raw morality play, told in Comey's words, about his dealings with a president whose behavior frightened him. Russia President Vladimir Putin's intelligence network includes a matrix of individuals who work for the government and those that do not, which adds some ambiguity, according to the article.
