UK leader May strikes tentative deal with N Ireland party

Whoever wins today, the fight for Brexit goes on

The Conservatives could command a thin majority with the support of the DUP if they manage to to do a deal with the Northern Irish party.

The Labour MP, who has been a critic of leader Jeremy Corbyn, said he recognised the party ran an "effective campaign" but a Conservative prime minister now sits in No 10.

"I don't think Theresa May and this government have any credibility", Corbyn said, predicting that there could be another election within months.

If Corbyn had claimed seven more seats, the total seats won by Labour, the Lib Dems, the SNP, Plaid Cymru, the Green Party and one independent MP would have come to 322 - enough to dethrone the Conservatives of their power.

A fresh election is the only alternative available to British Prime Minister Theresa May's Conservatives other than agreeing a deal with Northern Ireland's Democratic Unionist Party to remain in government, a senior Conservative lawmaker said on Sunday.

But her party is deeply divided over what it wants from Brexit, and the election result means British businesses still have no idea what trading rules they can expect in the coming years.

The moves buy May a temporary reprieve.

But media reports suggest they had demanded the departure of May's joint chiefs of staff, Nick Timothy and Fiona Hill, as the price for allowing the 60-year-old vicar's daughter to stay in office.

Downing St. said the Cabinet will discuss the agreement on Monday.

"We had 10 percent more voters than in 2015, and those voters were mainly younger voters - and they were really attracted by Labour's promise to abolish tuition fees", said Edward Morgan-Jones, a politics lecturer at the University of Kent in Canterbury.

The Labour leader, who has insisted the Conservatives lost the election despite being the largest party, was photographed by Times columnist Giles Coren at the football practice in sunny north London as the Prime Minister grappled with the fallout of losing her majority.

Cooper, who was defeated by Corbyn in the 2015 Labour leadership contest, said the Parliamentary party had "changed a lot" since last year's European Union referendum and was now fully behind Corbyn. She called the early election with her party comfortably ahead in the polls in the hope of increasing her majority and strengthening Britain's hand in exit talks with the European Union.

The Conservatives won 318 seats - eight less than it needed in order to secure a majority.

Theresa May's shambolic general election campaign presented Labour with an "open goal" - but the party missed it, the former shadow chancellor, Chris Leslie, warned yesterday.

The alliance makes some modernizing Conservatives uneasy. "I'm ready for another general election", Corbyn said.

"I could not care less what people get up to in terms of their sexuality". "I just don't see how she can continue in any long-term way".

"We welcome this commitment, which can provide the stability and certainty the whole country requires as we embark on Brexit and beyond", he said.
