Senior Ukrainian intelligence officer killed in auto bombing

Police said an explosive device in the vehicle went off as the auto was moving, kiling the colonel who was driving and wounding a passer-by on Tuesday (27 June).

Dramatic footage shows the moment the blast happened while pictures show the burnt out remains of the vehicle in the aftermath of the explosion.

The blast sent a huge cloud of smoke into the sky and hurt a passer-by.

"The national police, rescuers, as well as explosives and forensic experts are working at the scene", the ministry said in a statement.

Though the Ukrainian authorities have not yet revealed details on who is responsible for the bombing, the defense and interior ministry suggested the attack is linked to the separatist Ukrainian conflict.

The last major incident in Kiev occurred in July, when a prominent investigative journalist, Pavel Sheremet, was killed by the detonation of an explosive device in his vehicle, Reuters indicated.
