Dad of freed student says son was 'brutalized'

Warmbier is the 22-year-old American who was held hostage in North Korea for more than a year before returning home to OH this week in a coma.

The Warmbier family doesn't believe North Korea's explanation that the 22-year-old fell into a coma after contracting botulism and taking a sleeping pill shortly after he was sentenced in March 2016, Warmbier's father said on Thursday.

Warmbier's parents only learned of their son's condition last week.

US President Donald Trump spoke to Fred Warmbier on Wednesday night (Thursday NZT), Warmbier said.

"I don't think we'll ever find the answer", he said.

Earlier today, Warmbier's father Fred said the North Koreans brutalized his son and implied the regime is lying about the cause of his son's coma.

"The North Koreans have a lot of explaining to do - they may have violated the Geneva Convention", Richardson told TIME.

Warmbier, an economics student from the University of Virginia, was given a 15-year prison sentence after attempting to steal a propaganda sign from a hotel.

Joseph Yun, the U.S. State Department's special envoy on North Korea, traveled to Pyongyang and demanded Warmbier's release on humanitarian grounds, capping a flurry of secret diplomatic contacts, a U.S. official said Tuesday.

India eliminated in the quarter-finals
Malaysia , banking on counterattacks, began the proceedings by forcing two successive penalty corners in the third minute. A minute later, Malaysia doubled their lead as Tengku neatly deflected in from their fourth penalty corner.

Warmbier described the family's frustration over having to keep quiet while efforts to release their son went nowhere, and the sense of relief that followed.

Warmbier said his son "fought to stay alive" while in captivity since January 2016.

"They lure Americans, they take them hostage, then they do things to them", he said, tearing up as he pointed out to reporters that he was wearing the same jacket Otto wore for his televised confession.

The doctors said they had no information about the care he received in North Korea.

"He doesn't deserve this", Fred Warmbier told The Cincinnati Enquirer in an interview last month.

With the emplacement of the THAAD anti-missile system in South Korea and increased pressure from the Chinese (at the behest of President Trump), North Korea is feeling the pressure. "We see the results of their actions with Otto", Fred Warmbier said Thursday.

Doctors declined to speculate on what may have caused Warmbier's condition and said they would not discuss his prospects or treatment out of respect for his family.

Initially, it was reported that Warmbier was in a coma and had contracted botulism during his imprisonment in the tyrannical state.
