Chuck Todd: White House running a 'war on the truth'

The world has almost twice as much confidence in Germany's Angela Merkel as in Donald Trump

Jim Acosta, the White House correspondent for the cable news network, challenged Mr Spicer after the White House representative admonished the reporter while he was trying to ask a question on healthcare.

A CNN reporter has argued with White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer over the West Wing's decision to bar cameras from broadcasting the daily press briefings.

"If any Administration ever needed to be more transparent and honest with the media it is the Trump Administration, but instead it is closing ranks amidst a flurry of scandals and taking the People's business behind closed doors", said Karen Hobert Flynn, President of Common Cause. "Look at the number of questions that get asked over and over again just so a reporter can get a clip of themselves saying something or yelling at someone". Once it was over, several news outlets aired the briefing in its entirety. According to the Hill article, the administration - per White House aides - believe that their battle against the press is working and the fact that they have restricted their press briefings is working.

News host Chuck Todd went after the Trump administration Wednesday for running a "war on the truth".

Drone flying near Goodwin Fire forces grounding of aircraft fire operations
The blaze has grown to 2.5 square miles (6.5 sq. kilometers) since it broke out outside San Luis Obispo on Monday afternoon. The fire is burning in communities around Prescott, a mountain city about 100 miles (160.9 kilometres ) north of Phoenix.

Spicer was originally scheduled to deliver an on-camera press briefing at 2 p.m. ET with Energy Secretary Rick Perry. "This is the White House's way of showing the press corps who is in charge". It's a trend that has many reporters ruffled, and on Monday, CNN's Jim Acosta and other reporters called him out on it.

Every White House has an antagonistic relationship with the media.

But in recent weeks, he has suggested he may do away with them altogether. This right-wing activist is perhaps best known for his hit job edits on hidden videos that aim to misconstrue liberal voices and create false conservative narratives. "It would not be a "news event" in and of itself", they wrote in January in a joint op-ed in the Columbia Journalism Review.

"Maybe we should turn the cameras on", he responded. If the press follows their rules, they get to turn an accountable press into stage dressing. If televised briefings make for hot-dogging from some reporters (as Spicer accused Acosta of doing), it also allows for immediate and long-lasting transparency on what transpires.
