Attorney: Charlie Gard's parents have withdrawn legal bid to treat infant

Great Ormond Street Hospital

Talking about the experimental medical treatment they wanted him to receive in the United States, he added: "There is one simple reason it it can not go ahead".

Sky News reported that Gard and Yates "sat with their heads bowed" as their decision was read in court, ending their months-long legal battle. Among other symptoms, Charlie Gard has no vision or hearing, nor can he swallow.

Dad Chris spoke to reporters in an emotional statement outside the court.

But Yates and Gard, convinced he could recover, rejected the advice that the kindest thing would be to switch off the machines keeping him alive, so the hospital went to court and got the order they requested.

Judge Francis was due to rule Monday on whether there was sufficient new evidence to permit the parents to bring Charlie to the US for a an experimental therapy.

Speaking outside the court Monday, Yates said: "Charlie did have a real chance of getting better".

Ms Yates added: "We believe Charlie may have been too special for this poor world". Charlie's parents have been fiercely opposing the decision, and are determined to bring the boy to the United States for experimental treatments.

Doctors at the hospital had argued that the treatment in the USA wouldn't help Charlie and may even and cause him further pain.

However, Armstrong said that due to delay the "window of opportunity" to treat the child had been lost.

Liz Wheeler‏ in her tweet said that Charlie Gard's parents say "too late" to try therapy to save him.

Reliance Industries Q1 profit up 28 per cent
Brent crude oil price averaged $ 49.9/bbl in 1Q FY18 as compared to $ 45.6/bbl in the corresponding period of the previous year. Marginally weaker product cracks environment on Q-o-Q basis was offset by yield shift and robust risk management.

"If Charlie receives this treatment and it does work it won't just be his life that's saved, it will be many more children in future who are born with this awful disease".

The trust's chair, Mary MacLeod, said the organisation understood the high level of public interest and emotions linked to the Charlie Gard case. 'The parents wish to treasure their remaining time with Charlie, however short that may be'.

As the parents requested privacy and departed, a group of supporters outside the hospital chanted "Justice for Charlie!". "The parents' worst fears have been confirmed", he said.

On Monday, Mr Justice Francis had been scheduled to analyse what his parents said was fresh evidence at a hearing in the Family Division of the High Court.

The couple took the the case to the Court of Appeal and the UK's Supreme Court, where their application that he should be allowed to travel to the U.S. was dismissed.

The couple has been fighting court rulings saying their son's life support should be withdrawn. The decision was upheld by the UK's appellate courts and the European court of human rights but came back before the judge after Charlie's parents claimed to have new medical evidence that the treatment has a higher chance of succeeding than previously thought.

Charlie, who is 11 months old, suffers from mitochondrial depletion syndrome, a rare genetic disease. Doctors said it wouldn't help and contended Charlie should be allowed to die peacefully.

Judge Nicholas Francis scheduled a two-day hearing to consider fresh evidence after Dr. Michio Hirano, an American neurology expert from Columbia Medical Center in NY, came to London to examine the child.

In a statement, the couple said: 'We are extremely upset by the backlash we've received after Great Ormond Street Hospital put out their statement last night.
