Iran Says US Navy Vessel Fired Warning Shots

Iran US Navies Engage in Second Encounter in One Week

A U.S. Navy aircraft carrier fired warning shots at Iranian vessels in the Gulf, Iran's Revolutionary Guard Corps said Saturday, the second such incident in less than a week.

The USS Nimitz, accompanied by another US ship, fired the shot Friday as a helicopter hovered over the Iranian ships near an Iranian offshore oil-drilling platform in the Persian Gulf, the report said.

In June, the U.S. military labeled the actions of an Iranian vessel "unsafe and unprofessional" after it trained a laser on a USA helicopter that was accompanying a formation of American ships transiting the global waters of the Strait of Hormuz.

The confrontation occurred just three days after a similar face-off involving the USS Thunderbolt.

But the Iran state-sponsored IRNA news agency claimed that the USA ships acted as the provocateur as they came close to an Iranian oil offshore platform.

Why Trump discouraging officers from being 'too nice' matters in Baltimore
Among them was Rodman Serrano, 23, a child of immigrants from El Salvador and Brentwood High School graduate, who said that Mr. Trump was spreading an exaggerated narrative that assumed all Latinos are being gang members.

In January, the USS Mahan destroyer fired warning shots at four Iranian Revolutionary Guard vessels that approached at high speed in the Strait of Hormuz, which connects it to the Indian Ocean.

"It is a breach of the deal in articles 26, 28 and 29", said Araghchi.

The relations between the two countries have been strained since the arrival in power of president Donald Trump, which multiplies the declarations and the hostile actions against Tehran, including by imposing new sanctions against the country.

The new United States legislation imposes mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran's ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. The measure would also apply terrorism sanctions to Iran's elite Revolutionary Guard and enforce an arms embargo. Democrats said the sanctions would not conflict with the nuclear deal.

On Saturday Iran's foreign ministry said the missile launch was part of "domestic policy of the country, deterrent and at service of regional peace and security".
