Shkreli Convicted Of Securities Fraud, Blasts "Witch Hunt"

Former drug company executive Martin Shkreli is surrounded by news cameras as he exits U.S. District Court following the second day of jury deliberations in his securities fraud trial in the Brooklyn borough of New York City U.S

"And if I'm acquitted, I get to f- Lauren Duca", calling it "just my fantasy".

The other Martin Shkreli pleaded not guilty Friday in the same NY courtroom where the former pharmaceutical CEO was waiting for a verdict in his securities fraud trial.

In the case of MSMB Capital Management, for instance, Shkreli claimed to have made returns of 35.77 percent since its inception, when in reality the fund was actually down 18 percent.

Ben Brafman said that although Shkreli was a brilliant mind, sometimes his "people skills" need work. As he spoke, Shkreli smiled and cocked his head quizzically in mock confusion.

Perhaps more interesting than the guilty verdict is how Mr. Shkreli reacted to the conviction.

On his YouTube stream, Shkreli vowed to appeal the decision and said he thought the eighth charge will likely be dropped eventually.

"We're delighted in many ways with this verdict", Shkreli said at Friday's press conference following the verdict, noting that he's been acquitted of the "most important" charges. In one recent post, he wrote, "My case is a silly witch hunt perpetrated by self-serving prosecutors".

Trump Bans Transgender People in Military
But the rationale for that deference would be sharply undercut in this case. Sanders said in a press briefing, "This was about military readiness ".

A juror anonymously told the New York Times: "In some of the counts at least we couldn't find that he intentionally stole from them and the reasoning was to hurt them". At one point, he dropped in on a group of reporters in the courthouse to tell them that the prosecution was "junior varsity"-prompting the judge to order him not to speak in or around the courthouse again". He was released until sentencing, which has yet to be set. To do this, Shkreli lied about having an "excellent track record" of running similar hedge funds, and falsely claimed his particular investment strategy was a low-risk one.

This case, for which the trial began on June 28, was over allegations that Shkreli defrauded investors in two hedge funds he'd managed.

In closing arguments, Assistant U.S. Attorney Jacquelyn Kasulis called Shkreli "calculating". That was while he was CEO of Turing Pharmaceutical, a company he formed after being asked to leave Retrophin.

Matsumoto then read out the verdict sheet.

The 34-year-old Shkreli is notorious for jacking up the price of a life-saving drug and for his snide "Pharma Bro" persona online.

A jury found that Shkreli cheated investors out of more than $11 million between 2009 and 2014 in a "Ponzi-like scheme".

They got the case Monday and were still grappling with it Friday in New York City. He was derisively called "Pharma Bro" on social media-so he adopted that as his handle on League of Legends.
