China to ban some petroleum exports to North Korea

What really happens in the event of a nuclear strike?

China on Saturday imposed a limit on the supplies of petroleum products to North Korea and imports of textiles from the country under United Nations sanctions over its nuclear and missile development. The sale of liquefied natural gas has been banned outright and the export of refined petroleum has been reduced to two barrels per year.

Exported refined oil products must be used fully on civil purposes, not for North Korea's nuclear and ballistic missile programmes, or other activities banned by the UN Security Council, the ministry said.

China accounts for some 90 per cent of the North's trade, making its cooperation critical to any efforts to derail Pyongyang's development of nuclear weapons and long-range missiles.

The Ministry of Commerce said it will implement UN Security Council Resolution 2375 by halting the export of liquefied natural gas and gas condensate to North Korea from today and limit exports of refined oil from October 1.

Say What? Kim Jong Un Calls Trump a 'Dotard'
Security Council agreement concerning North Korea . "I think the situation in North Korea is extremely serious", Trudeau replied.

The world's second-largest economy imported and exported goods worth $604.27 million in August, up from $456.16 million in July, according to data from China's General Administration of Customs.

China said the new restrictions are in accordance with United Nations sanctions leveled against the North to stymie its nuclear and missile ambitions. Since time immemorial, Chinese leaders have always been considered North Korea's diplomatic protectors but now express increasing frustration with the government of Kim Jong Un.

However, in a regular briefing Friday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Lu Kang denied media reports saying the central bank has launched new financial sanctions including notifying commercial banks to stop opening new transactions with North Korea. Trump, speaking during the U.N. General Assembly, called Kim "Rocket Man", and Kim threatened in a video to "tame the mentally deranged USA dotard with fire". Yet in early September, after North Korea conducted its sixth and biggest nuclear test, it called the prospect of a full oil embargo "rash and extreme".

Also on Friday, North Korean Foreign Minister Ri Yong-ho said his country could consider a hydrogen bomb test on an unprecedented scale on the Pacific Ocean - a threat, Japan labelled as "totally unacceptable".
