There'll be no victor in a war on Korean peninsula, China warns

Actions such as flying strategic bombers near North Korea are not the kind of thing to reassure investors.

USA secretary of state Rex Tillerson will visit China from Thursday to Saturday for talks with senior officials that will include the crisis over North Korea and trade, the State Department said on Tuesday.

President Moon Jae-in will hold a special meeting with the leaders of the ruling and opposition parties this week to discuss bipartisan efforts to end North Korea's nuclear ambitions, an official from the presidential office Blue House said Tuesday.

South Korean lawmaker Lee Cheol-uoo, briefed by the country's spy agency, said North Korea was bolstering its defences by moving aircraft to its east coast and taking other measures after the flight by USA bombers.

He says all nations must act now for the denuclearization of North Korea.

North Korea conducted its sixth and apparently most powerful nuclear test so far on September 3.

In a separate speech on Thursday, Moon said cooperation with the global community to curb the North's nuclear ambitions was at its highest level ever and called for the strengthening of South Korea-U.S. defenses to rein in the North.

Also Thursday, China's foreign ministry appealed for dialogue to defuse the increasingly acrimonious dispute between U.S. President Donald Trump's government and North Korea.

Trump repeated praise he offered last week for China's reported breaking off of banking relations with North Korea.

Branches of China's biggest banks have told AFP that they have suspended financial transactions for North Koreans, a measure that is not required under United Nations sanctions.

On Tuesday, the administration designated eight North Korean banks, including Agricultural Development Bank, Cheil Credit Bank and International Industrial Bank.

The Trump administration is using new sanctions authority to punish eight North Korean banks and 26 bank workers living overseas.

China also disapproved of the escalation of the war of words between the United States and North Korea, Lu told a daily news briefing in Beijing. The Treasury Department says the 26 individuals are North Korean nationals employed by those banks who work in Russia, China, Libya and the United Arab Emirates. Speaking in South Korea Wednesday, U.S. Lieutenant General Thomas Bergeson said that a joint force with seamlessly integrated air power "is exactly that type of force that is necessary to interdict and then defeat a nuclear-capable enemy".
