San Juan mayor hits out at Trump official

Land destroyed by Hurricane Maria in Puerto Rico

In a series of early morning tweets, Trump lashed out at Cruz: "Such poor leadership ability by the Mayor of San Juan, and others in Puerto Rico, who are not able to get their workers to help".

Only moments after Trump's self-congratulatory remarks were broadcast, the mayor of San Juan went on television to unleash a damning indictment of the United States government's treatment of the 3.5 million Americans on the island. "We want them to be safe and sound and secure and we will be there every day until that happens".

Trump on Twitter also again defended the federal response, saying that the military and first responders were doing an "amazing job" and blasted the news media, whom he said were disparaging relief workers.

"I will continue to do whatever I have to do, say whatever I have to say, compliment the people I need to compliment, and call out the people I need to call out", said Mayor Carmen Yulín Cruz. "We are dying and you are killing us with the inefficiency".

Mr Trump came under withering fire earlier this week for what some critics said was his slow response to an escalating humanitarian crisis.

But in many cases, "on site" meant stored on pallets and in containers in sea - and at airports far from the towns where Puerto Ricans desperately lined up for fresh water and pre-made meals being distributed by federal officials.

The presenter of the video said the hospital she was in had "no water, no cash", and added that "the hospital is completely full with no generators, so they have open windows".

Sen. Schatz Celebrates GOP Healthcare Bill Quash
Majority Leader Mitch McConnell pulled the plug on the latest version of a bill created to dismantle the controversial health law. John McCain (R-AZ) derailed an Obamacare repeal last week when he announced that he will oppose the bill .

White House press secretary Sarah Sanders announced on Twitter Thursday morning Trump had authorized the law be waived for Puerto Rico, effective immediately, at the behest of Gov. Ricardo Rosselló.

President Donald Trump explained the difficulties associated with delivering much needed food and emergency supplies to Puerto Rico amid the destruction caused by Hurricane Maria during a Friday speech.

Studies show that the Jones Act is partly to blame for the significant increases in costs to ship goods to Puerto Rico and Hawaii, doubling them in some cases.

"It is not a good news story when people are dying".

"Damn it, this is not a good news story", Cruz told CNN.

"When you look at Texas and when you look at Florida, it's a whole different level", Trump said.

"Dear @realDonaldTrump I know you've probably already seen this, but I just wanted to make sure!"
