President Trump Mused About Revoking NBC's License. Republicans in Congress Cheered

President Donald Trump shown in a meeting Tuesday with former Secretary of State Henry Kissinger reportedly told his generals in July that he wanted a massive expansion of America's nuclear weapons arsenal

"Pure fiction, made up to demean", Trump tweeted.

CNN has until recently been the president's favorite target for accusations of broadcasting 'fake news'.

US President Donald Trump on Wednesday (Oct 11) denied a report from NBC News that he told his national security advisers in July he wanted to increase the country's nuclear arsenal by almost tenfold, saying he argued for its modernisation.

Last week, the president asked in a tweet why the Senate Intelligence Committee was not looking at American media companies.

The president was reacting to an NBC News report that he pushed senior aides for a major expansion of the US nuclear arsenal.

An NBC News report about Trump asking for more nuclear weapons - which reportedly is what pushed Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to call Trump a "moron" this summer - instigated Trump's most recent Twitter attacks on the media. The FCC also didn't immediately comment.

'He's all in for modernization, ' one official told the network. As of September 1, the USA had 1393 and Russian Federation had 1561.

But Trump has ordered the Pentagon to review its nuclear posture, with the U.S. reassessing its nuclear assets in light of evolving threats.

Sitharaman exhorted the troops to continue with the same zeal and sense of pride and honour showing due respect to human rights. She later met with Chief Minister Pawan Chamling at his residence to discuss issues in the state.

Trump was reacting to a slide that showed the US with 32,000 nuclear warheads in the late 1960s, compared to what the Federation of American Scientists estimates as 4,000 today.

When the meeting occurred, however, White told reporters it "covered the planet", and that the president's advisers "went around the world", to discuss challenges and opportunities for the country.

France is third in the nuclear arms race, with about 300.

Which came on the heels of a campaign season in which Trump threatened to sue the New York Times, suggested he'd target Washington Post owner Jeff Bezos, and pulled the credentials of outlets whose campaign coverage he disapproved of.

Trump's previous comments about nuclear weapons have caused confusion and concern in some quarters.

Arms-control experts maintain that an increase in USA arms would spur another arms race with Russian Federation and most likely China and could lead to other countries seeking nuclear capabilities.

"If [Trump] were to increase the numbers, the Russians would match him, and the Chinese" would ramp up their nuclear ambitions, Joe Cirincione, a nuclear expert and MSNBC contributor.
