Taking a look at breast cancer's impact on the two

For one in five women the family history written into their genes increases their risk of being diagnosed by almost a third

Breast cancer is the second most common cancer among women in the USA -affecting one in every eight-but researchers recently found a difference between breast tissue of healthy women versus those with breast cancer that could lead to new kinds of treatment.

About 70 per cent of breast cancer responds to the oestrogen hormone, which helps the tumour to grow.

This important discovery will help to determine with greater accuracy the risk of a woman developing breast cancer during her lifetime. Doctors hope the new information released from a study by an global team of 550 researchers help them understand the genetic role of the disease. Dr. Grear said, "They're not necessarily associated with a high increase of having a cancer, but if you have several of them, maybe that makes you more likely to get a breast cancer". "Imagine if we could, instead of giving chemotherapy, that not only hits the cancer, but every cell in the body, imagine if we could just give something that targets the cancer, wherever it may be, breast or otherwise", says Dr. Eng.

How much can the newly identified genes predict about breast cancer risk? A team at the Cleveland Clinic found differences in the types and amounts of bacteria between cancerous and non-cancerous breast tissue.

Some 107 genes already linked to breast cancer were confirmed while scientists found 72 new ones.

Dr Pallave Dasari, an Australian breast cancer research fellow at University of Adelaide, said that while she believed this was a "really valuable" progression in understanding family history risk, a test was "extremely premature" at this stage.

"Breast cancer is the most common type of cancer in women both in the developed and less developed world".

Sixth victim of Maryland gunman survives DE shooting, knows suspect
The Baltimore Sun reports Prince was sacked from another job earlier this year after he attacked a co-worker. At least one victim was targeted, authorities said, but the extent of their injuries was not released.

Breast cancer doesn't discriminate.

USA co-author Professor Peter Kraft, from the Harvard TH Chan School of Public Health, said the findings revealed a wealth of new information about the genetic mechanisms underlying the disease. He was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2012 and it changed his life.

While 41 percent of those receiving conventional treatment for lung cancer survive for at least five years, only 20 percent of those opting for alternative medicines do so, the research adds. "A better understanding of the biological basis of oestrogen receptor negative breast cancer may lead to more effective preventive interventions and treatments".

Cambridge University and partners in a five-star global research alliance have identified seventy-two new genetic variants that contribute to the risk of developing breast cancer.

"But there are other risk factors".

The other seven predispose to hormone receptor-negative breast cancer.
