Trump threatens to cut Pakistan aid, says it harbors terrorists

January 2 (ANI): Pakistan has summoned United States ambassador David Hale over President Donald Trump's tweet, in which he has accused Pakistan of lying and cheating in war on terrorism.

Trump said that the USA had only gotten "lies" and "deceit" in return for the monetary aid it had provided.

"The US has foolishly given Pakistan more than 33 billion dollars in aid over the last 15 years, and they have given us nothing but lies and deceit, thinking of our leaders as fools", the Republican leader said.

The government today called the US President Donald Trump's scathing criticism of Pakistan a vindication of its stand on Pakistan's link and support to terrorism.

"Pakistan is ready to publicly provide every detail of the U.S. aid that it has received", Asif said in a strongly worded statement in response to Trump's tweet that accuses Pakistan of providing safe havens to terrorists that the USA is hunting in Afghanistan. Pakistan is "starting to respect the United States again", Trump said.

The comment comes after a report last week that the United States was considering withholding hundreds of millions in aid to Pakistan over the way it has handled terror groups within its borders and refused to cooperate with counterterrorism efforts.

Gal Gadot to present at Golden Globes
The women protesting Hollywood's culture of sexual harassment at the Golden Globes won't have to stand alone. For example, 22 of the 70 actors have never been nominated, let alone won, a Golden Globe.

There was a furious reaction in Pakistan, where the government has rejected USA criticism and says it has suffered from being a regional ally of Washington in the war against terror.

The report stated that U.S. officials, who spoke on the condition of anonymity to describe the sensitive discussions, did not detail what conditions Pakistan would have to meet to receive the aid.

During the announcement, the United States president was quick to remind Pakistan of its obligation toward helping America because it receives "massive payments" from Washington every year. "They have to help".

The group was responsible for kidnapping a Canadian-American couple and holding them from 2012 to 2017, when Pakistani forces secured their release in what they said was as a rescue operation but some USA officials reportedly described as a "negotiated handover".

"The Pakistani government's cooperation is a sign that it is honoring America's wishes for it to do more to provide security in the region", he said in a statement. It said the two leaders also discussed on the country's foreign policy.

U.S. Senator Rand Paul said on Twitter he would lead the charge in the Senate to end aid to Pakistan.
