FBI disciplinary office recommends firing former deputy director Andrew McCabe

WASHINGTON ― Andrew McCabe, who took over as acting head of the FBI after President Donald Trump fired former Director James Comey a year ago, may soon be fired by the Trump administration just ahead of his formal retirement date on Sunday, putting his pension in peril after more than two decades at the bureau.

The FBI's Office of Professional Responsibility issued the recommendation after receiving information from Department of Justice Inspector General Michael Horowitz.

President Donald Trump has previously questioned whether McCabe favored Hillary Clinton because McCabe's wife received political donations from a Democratic-linked political action committee when she ran unsuccessfully for the U.S. Senate.

When asked about the reports, the Justice Department said in a statement: "The Department follows a prescribed process by which an employee may be terminated". According to Fox News, McCabe was "removed" from his post as deputy director, "leaving the bureau after months of conflict-of-interest complaints from Republicans including President Trump".

The FBI watchdog group was looking into claims McCabe misled investigators about his decision to authorize FBI officials to speak to the media about the Clinton Foundation investigation. The decision whether to accept that recommendation or reject it will be made by Attorney General Jeff Sessions.

During its vacation and shift to another, happier, "family-friendly" network, American Idol has not lost that mean streak. Oh, and let's not forget: they are already big stars. "But it ended up being the best decision I ever made", he said.

McCabe stepped down as deputy director in January, reportedly amid concerns raised by the inspector general report. The details of why the inspector general viewed Mr. McCabe as not forthcoming are not clear.

McCabe's retirement is set to go into effect Sunday and his firing could jeopardize his pension as a 21-year veteran of the bureau, according to the report. "We have no personnel announcements at this time", she added. But it seems McCabe hasn't been a Trump favorite, either.

The story presented McCabe as a complicated figure - one who lower level officials felt was stymieing their work, even though it detailed McCabe pushing back against Justice Department officials so the case could move forward.

The Wall Street Journal report was written by Devlin Barrett, who is now a reporter with The Washington Post. The Justice Department said no formal decision has been made on McCabe's fate.
