Steve Wozniak promises to delete his Facebook account in protest

Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak gestures as he attends a conference titled'The Innovation Summit in Milan Italy

Social media giant Facebook faced a major embarrassment after Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak said he was quitting it because he was anxious over the way Facebook and other Internet companies were dealing with the users' information.

In the email, Wozniak said he would pay to keep Facebook from exploiting his personal information. He said the "profits are all based on the user's info, but the users get none of the profits back".

Prior to this, Apple co-founder and CEO Tim Cook publicly sneered the social networking giant during a joint interview with Recode and MSNBC.

"If our customer was our product, we could make a ton of money", he said, echoing late Apple CEO Steve Job's stance on privacy. In fact, Facebook COO Sheryl Sandberg confirmed as much by stating that users would need to pay to avoid having their data used for advertising. The CEO of world's largest social media platform will be questioned by privacy advocates and lawmakers over the ongoing data leak scandal that risked the privacy of over 80 million Facebook users by harvesting their personal information without their consent.

This is not the first time that Apple co-founder Steve Wozniak has expressed discontent towards the tech firms.

Trump promises quick decision on Syria response
The Syrian government denied it carried out a poison gas attack in Douma, the last rebel-held town in the eastern Ghouta suburbs. The British government is also discussing military intervention with its allies in Syria in response to the alleged attack.

Elon Musk took the plunge last month in the wake of revelations of a sizable data breach that resulted from an affiliation with research firm Cambridge Analytica.

A common argument about why websites like Facebook and Google are free is because of the fact that users are paying with their data and private information rather than money. "It's brought me more negatives than positives", Wozniak writes in a post on April 8, as USA Today reports. He praised Apple for respecting people's privacy. WhatsApp Co-founder Brian Acton also asked people to delete Facebook.

Wozniak's move comes in the midst of Facebook's deepest crisis, a data breach that has affected 87 million users globally. How could Facebook continue to earn money while also protecting users' privacy?

Zuckerberg in return hit back on Cook by calling his comments extremely "grib".
