Starbucks Corp will close 8,000 company-owned US cafes for the afternoon on May 29 so 175,000 employees can undergo racial tolerance training in response to protests and calls for boycotts after the arrest of two black men waiting in a Philadelphia store.

Starbucks will close the stores May 29 to offer the training to 175,000 employees, reported the New York Times.

Police have released the 911 call that led to the arrest of two Black men at a Philadelphia Starbucks Thursday, April 12. The Starbucks employee called police because the men were doing what everyone does at Starbucks - using the coffee shop as a meeting place without making an immediate purchase.

The Starbucks at Suburban Plaza will close, an employee said. The two black men were arrested at Starbucks after the store's manager called police because they were sitting in the store without ordering anything. Yaffee arrived as the officers put the men, who were not being disruptive or confrontational, in handcuffs for trespassing.

The company said it would train almost 175,000 employees and require all new employees to undergo the same training. An employee at the store in downtown Decatur said that most Starbucks stores that are not inside of another business, like a grocery store, are corporate owned.

The company announced Tuesday that the manager of the Philadelphia location seen in the video has resigned while an internal investigation continues.

"While this is not limited to Starbucks, we're committed to being a part of the solution", Johnson said in a statement that USA Today posted.

"She recognizes that perhaps that call should not have been made", he said. He said that the company was looking "at all aspects of this", from training to company policy. Authorities also released dispatch and officer communications. Given that the two men did nothing other than request to use the restroom, multiple apologies have followed, and Schultz has visited with CBS This Morning's Gayle King to relay his own mortification over the debacle.

"The company's founding values are based on humanity and inclusion", said executive chairman Howard Schultz, who joined Johnson and other senior Starbucks leaders in Philadelphia to meet with community leaders and Starbucks partners.

Several people who live in the neighborhood were at one point stopped by police while they were shopping at the square.
