How much will Starbucks' closing on Tuesday cost the company?

Roughly 8,000 Starbucks stores are closing at about 2 p.m. on Tuesday and reopening with normal hours on Wednesday.

A simultaneous training session for 175,000 employees, across more than 8,000 stores - that's what Starbucks is doing Tuesday, urging its workers and managers to discuss racial bias and respect following the arrest of two black men at a Philadelphia store last month.

A manager at the Philadelphia store had told police that Donte Robinson and Rashon Nelson, both 23-year-old businessmen, asked to use the bathroom and were sitting inside the store without purchasing anything.

An arrest video sparked a nationwide outcry and apologies from the Philadelphia police commissioner and Starbucks CEO Kevin Johnson, who called the arrests "reprehensible". Licensed stores that are not owned by Starbucks, including locations at airports, on college and private business campuses and within grocery stores, were not required to close. "I don't think they should have been targetted" Said Jeff Whitney of Scranton.

Alaska Starbucks locations will be closed several hours earlier than usual, as employees and management engage in "anti-bias training" to combat racial profiling. There are plans for more employee training, and outsider advisers are looking at other steps the company can take. 'What we've said to our board, our shareholders, we are deeply committed to making this part of everything we do.

Brant Publications is owned by billionaire Peter Brant , who is a well-known art lover and Warhol fan. Prior to his departure from the magazine in April, Baron had worked at Interview for 10 years.

The training was developed with the NAACP Legal Defense and Education Fund, the Perception Institute and other social advocacy organizations, and included contributions by the rap music artist Common.

Starbucks gave a media preview of the session in NY in which Executive Chairman Howard Schultz said he considered the training necessary.

"The incident has prompted us to reflect more deeply on all forms of bias, the role of our stores in communities and our responsibility to ensure that nothing like this happens again at Starbucks", Schultz said.

"We'll see you tomorrow" signs could be seen strewn up on the windows of the popular coffee chain. "For it to be closed today is going to hurt a lot of things", said Mr. Luster, who is black. Williams said the full curriculum will be made available to the public "after May 29", although Starbucks did not say exactly when or where it will be published.

After the incident, the company's leaders apologized and met with the men, and scheduled an afternoon of training for 175,000 employees at more than 8,000 US stores.
