Asus ROG Phone hands-on review: Razer phone 2.0

After plenty of teasing, ASUS ROG has finally pulled the wraps off its first gaming phone.

Your window into the gaming world is through a 6-inch AMOLED display with a resolution of 2160x1080.

Asus wants to make it easier for newbies to build their battle-hardened gaming rigs.

Take for instance a second USB type-C port which is positioned, on the right side of the phone so that the charging cable does not get in the way while you are playing games in landscape mode. With Asus' proprietary Armoury II software, all buttons on the mouse are customisable and it comes with three profiles stored directly on its internal storage. If that's not enough, there's even an AeroActive Cooler which you can attach to the back of the ROG Phone.

Cooling is handled by ROG's GameCool system, which employs "highly efficient 3D vapor-chamber cooling".

Besides revealing the smartphone features and specifications, the company didn't unveil a lot of details on the phone's pricing or availability.

Of course, that won't be easy, considering that smartphone games are usually created to run across a range of devices, fast and slow.

The ROG Phone has a 6-inch AMOLED FHD+ screen with a refresh rate of 90Hz and a 1ms response time. It also offers liquid cooling support.

There's a huge 8GB of RAM inside of the ASUS ROG Phone, and camera wise we have an 8-megapixel up front and 12/8-megapixel ultra-wide on the back, with a rear fingerprint sensor joining the fray.

As far as accessories go though, the coolest has to be the Twinview dock. Pur the ROG Phone in there and it lights up with both available displays, opening up possibilities for game developers to use two screens independently. If you're a hardcore mobile gamer, however, nothing on or coming to the market now beats the gaming power packed in that size. The back of the phone is covered in insane lines and accents, including a ROG logo dressed up in RGB lighting which users have full control over in the software.

They also jokingly stated that ROG Phone will definitely be priced lower than Apple iPhone X. Well, guess it is good to know that the gaming phone will not cost beyond RM 4,800...for now. That's not all, there's also two side controllers called the Gamevice that clip on either side of the device, and you can also get a variety of docks - including a desktop mounted one for full-scale gaming. Price and release There's no word on what the price for the ROG Phone would be, but given the specs and the brand history of the Republic of Gamers products, we wouldn't expect it to be cheap. The fans are a bit more powerful this year, running on 12 volts, with a few more blades; the radiator fins are also thinner and more tightly packed, which Asus claims improved heat dissipation by up to 10 percent.
