Israeli army: 'only 30-40' Gazans were killed on objective

A Palestinian protester uses a slingshot to throw a stone towards Israeli forces as smoke billows from burning tires during a demonstration along the border with the Gaza strip east of Gaza city

Israeli forces Thursday detained nine Palestinians and seized personal belongings during multiple raids across the West Bank, said security sources and WAFA correspondents.

A Hamas official has said that its members accounted for 50 of the 60 Palestinians killed by Israeli fire on May 14, when the largest protests and clashes took place.

A senior Israeli military official said Thursday that only "30 to 40" of the at least 125 Palestinians who died from Israeli fire along the Gaza border in recent weeks were killed on goal, with these being identified by the IDF as terrorists with hostile intentions.

More than 120 Palestinian demonstrators have been killed in eastern Gaza by Israeli army gunfire - and thousands more injured - since the rallies began more than two months ago. "In addition, the incident will be examined by the General Staff Fact Finding Assessment Mechanism, and the findings passed to the Military Advocate General", for a separate determination on whether criminal proceedings should be initiated, he added.

Israeli use of force against Palestinians has drawn particular worldwide attention in recent months after at least 120 Palestinians were killed during protests at the Israeli border with the Gaza Strip, including 60 in a single day on May 14.

U.S. reaches deal with China's ZTE, commerce secretary says

The protests along the fortified fence that separates Gaza from Israeli territory have become an acute flash point in the intractable Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Many Palestinians tried to provide aid to the seriously wounded man, but the soldiers assaulted them, and threatened to shoot them. Others threw stones or flew kites with burning rags attached, aiming to send them over the border and set Israeli fields on fire. The spokesman said that he was "given medical treatment at the scene", but did not survive.

Israel's use of potentially lethal force against the protesters has drawn worldwide criticism.

Israel captured east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war and annexed it to its capital, a move not recognized by most of the worldwide community. USA -brokered peace talks collapsed in 2014.
