Britain's May pledges US$26.6 billion extra for healthcare post-Brexit

The controversial Vote Leave battle bus saying the country would have an extra £350m for the NHS per week if we left the EU

In return, the NHS will be expected to produce a plan, led by doctors, setting out how the money will deliver the Government's "vision" for the health service and ensure value for money.

But she remained vague on how the new money, totalling £394m more a week in real terms by the end of the settlement, will be paid for, beyond mentioning taxes and repeating her confidence in a so-called Brexit dividend.

"But that alone won't be anything like enough, so there will also be more resourcing through the taxation system, and also through economic growth".

The National Health Service is to receive an extra £20 billion ($26.5bn) a year by 2023 as a 70th "birthday present", Theresa May has claimed.

Speaking to the BBC's Andrew Marr Show, she said the government is working to secure the future of the NHS.

The Prime Minister has said that this will mean an average increase of around 3.4% in spending a year from 2019/20, once inflation is accounted for.

The Scottish government will receive a £2bn boost as a result of United Kingdom government investment in the NHS, the Scottish Conservatives have said.

The prime minister sounded honest and passionate in making the case for the NHS during her speech to health service leaders on Monday. The deal was concluded late on Friday afternoon by May, Jeremy Hunt, the health secretary, Philip Hammond, the chancellor, and Simon Stevens, chief executive of NHS England.

Supreme Court Sides With Ohio's Voter-Purge Law
But it's possible the number is much greater because Ohio's 88 counties did not uniformly remove voters or report that action. Election officials in the state send address confirmation notices to voters who have not cast ballots for at least two years.

Writing exclusively for HuffPost UK, 12 high-profile clinicians, including ex-chair of the Royal College of GPs, Dr Clare Gerada, slam the Prime Minister's big NHS announcement and say "there is in fact a growing Brexit deficit" in the health service.

She acknowledged that the public would have to pay "a bit more in a fair and balanced way to support the NHS we all use", but would not be drawn on how the cash would be raised.

The government has yet to confirm a plan for finding up to £11bn of the money promised yesterday, with the PM telling Swarbrick that tax rises are on the way in the autumn budget.

He also insisted the government was able to announce the funding injection not only due to the "Brexit dividend", but also a "deficit reduction dividend" and a "jobs dividend".

Across the whole Department of Health (including other areas like public health) the Nuffield Trust has calculated that the increase will amount to around 3% a year, rather than 3.4%.

"I believe the best days for our NHS are ahead of it - this financial commitment by the Conservatives will let our health care professionals work to build a stronger, safer and better NHS for all of us".

Under the plans, the NHS budget, which now stands at £114 billion, will increase by an average of 3.4 percent a year.

But she added: 'It is essential that as more details of her long-term plan are announced, general practice is recognised for the vital role it plays in delivering safe, effective patient care in the community, and keeping the entire NHS sustainable'.
