Johanna Konta snubs umpire as Ashleigh Barty wins Nottingham final

Johanna Konta

Australian No 1 Ashleigh Barty heaped disappointment on Britain's home hope Johanna Konta for a second successive year in the Nottingham Open as she ran out a three-set victor in a tight and compelling final on Sunday.

Konta beat Barty in the quarterfinals previous year before losing to Vekic in the final.

Top seed Barty made it four straight wins in four matches as she swept aside Japan's Naomi Osaka 6-3 6-4 in 65 minutes in the English grass court tournament, boosting her confidence in the build up to Wimbledon.

Barty broke her Japanese opponent twice in the first set and again at the beginning of the second to add a final place to the one she earned at Sydney in January.

"It is never easy with a rain delay, so I am very happy to have battled through, to keep my mind on the task at hand and do the best I can with the conditions".

"You listen to me now".

Lava Oozes Out From Kilauea Volcano
There were two small blasts Monday, including one after a magnitude-5.4 natural disaster , scientists said. The lava is "enough to cover Manhattan 6.5 feet deep" and fill 11.3 million average dump trucks, it said.

Konta and Vekic were halted by rain, giving Barty a recovery edge. With only one able to move on to Sunday's title match, the key would be to who got the best jump in the opening games or the first to blink. She responded to the umpire by saying: "I am a human being, no a robot". When treatment wasn't working on court, Vekic and the trainer left court to fix the issue.

"She loves this surface and she's very vocal about it".

Ashleigh Barty after victory in her final match against Johanna Konta. Vekić was unhappy with a decision resulting in her calling a shot out in the middle of the point, meaning that she subsequently lost the point for speaking during play. She's improved a lot and is playing very well since she's come back.

"I lost to Jo here previous year, so I think I can go in and play some pretty free tennis".

Konta was looking to make some recent British WTA history in her second career final in Nottingham, as the last British player to win a WTA singles title at home was Sue Barker in Brighton, on carpet in 1981.
