Former FIFA President Sepp Blatter claims VAR is failing

Luzhniki Stadium

The Kremlin has said US national security adviser John Bolton plans to visit Moscow, without providing details about the trip.

In an interview with Britain's Channel 4 News, Blatter said he had been invited to the World Cup by the Russian organizing committee and Federation Internationale de Football Association should respect his right to be at the tournament. Blatter was FIFA president from 1998 until being suspended from office in October 2015 in the fallout from US and Swiss federal investigations of worldwide football officials.

The terms of the ban, which runs until October 2021, meant Blatter was kept separate from is successor Gianni Infantino and other football officials at Luzhniki Stadium.

He claimed he has spoken to several senior figures in the game on the phone and they have welcomed him to the World Cup and said it was a "lost opportunity" on FIFA's part not to make "a little effort" on his behalf.

Nothing stops Blatter from buying a ticket or being invited to watch in a VIP area, and you didn't expect the notorious grifter to roll up to the box office.

Dhawan ton dents Afghanistan's Test debut
India will field an under-strength side in the one-off test as they have one eye fixed on the long worldwide schedule ahead. Afghanistan are under no illusion about how the pitch will behave and expect India's three spinners to come hard at them.

The Kremlin on Wednesday said Vladimir Putin did not watch Russia's surprise win over Egypt in the World Cup because he was on a plane but added that he reacted "very positively, like the whole of our country".

No charges have yet been brought and Blatter has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing. "And he has said 'OK, nothing.' So I don't think they are bothered", he said. "I'm still president, but suspended", he told Russian news channel RT.

Blatter, who has repeatedly denied any wrongdoing, said on Thursday he had been invited to the World Cup by Russian Federation, which he said had organised his trip and provided him with tickets and a fan ID. "It was not an easy time for me, it's still not the easiest time".

"1966 was the last time England held a World Cup, so it is right for them not only to bid, but to organise the World Cup", said Blatter. "Football should help, perhaps, to solve political problems", he said.
