Trump Extends State Of National Emergency Against North Korea Threat

North Korean leader Kim Jong Un shakes hands with Chinese President Xi Jinping in Beijing

Delegations from North and South Korea agreed on Friday to arrange the first reunions in three years of some of the families separated by the 1950-53 Korean War.

"Sleep well tonight!" Trump tweeted on June 13, the day after he and Kim met in Singapore. "They're destroying their engine site", Trump said.

"Just landed - a long trip, but everybody can now feel much safer than the day I took office", he said. As recently as May the North Korean Red Cross organisation urged South Korea to return the women "without delay".

Trump went on to say that the "number-one statement" in the document he and Kim signed in Singapore was "we will immediately begin total denuclearisation of North Korea", although there was no such statement in the text.

A stamp printed in North Korea shows Propaganda Liberation Army fighting U.S. troops, circa 1972.

"It appears that Kim intends to express his gratitude to China for providing support during his summit with Trump, such as offering a plane, while explaining the major agenda items discussed during the summit and pushing to take the initiative through consultation for the future situation", Shin Beom-chul, a senior fellow at the Asan Institute for Policy Studies, said. "No longer - sleep well tonight!"

Germans 'turning against their leaders' over immigration
That would benefit Germany's far right, just like the immigration issue has in at least a dozen other European countries. Seibert said such agreements could involve countries that are most strongly affected by migrant movements.

The pivot to economic reform was championed by leader Kim Jong Un in the DPRK's May 2016 congress and has seen posters promoting North Korea's missile and nuclear capabilities replaced with ones advocating for increased industrial production. Even if, implausibly, U.S. -South Korean military exercises drew strong criticism from Senate Armed Services Committee Chairman John McCain, R-Ariz., who called it a concession.

The reunion program was halted in 2015 amid growing tensions between the two sides as North Korea intensified its nuclear program with frequent missile launches and tests.

Mattis said he was unaware of any steps by North Korea toward denuclearization, and he "wouldn't expect that at this point".

The national emergency that Trump extended allows the government to forbid North Korean leaders from selling or otherwise using any assets they may hold in the United States.

Promoted to commander of the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command (INDOPACOM) last month, Admiral Philip Davidson gave the assurance during his first official visit to Japan for two days of talks with Defence Minister Itsunori Onodera. China accounts for around 90 percent of North Korea's trade and has traditionally been its primary diplomatic conduit to the outside world. Some could be lifted as negotiations progress. The country's state-run media characterized the vaguely worded agreement with Trump as setting in motion a "step-by-step" process.
