Enyeama reacts as African teams crash out of tournament

Japan collected four. Both teams amassed four points and a goal aggregate of 4-4.

Senegal's World Cup is over due to discipline assigned by various referees at what probably seemed like inconsequential moments through the group stage.

Kozo Tashima, president of the Japan Football Association (JFA), insisted the team deserved a place in the knockout stage in Russian Federation, won at the expense of Senegal by virtue of having picked up fewer yellow cards.

In 2018, with the current crop of African stars such as Egypt's Mohamed Salah and Senegal's Sadio Mane, matching the record from the Spanish World Cup underlines what a disastrous tournament this has been for Africa.

The 2014 edition in Brazil saw Algeria and Nigeria in the knockout stage, but no African side has ever progressed further than the quarter-finals.

Senegal, who lost 1-0 to Colombia, ended up level on points, goal difference and goals scored with Japan so the teams were separated by the tie-break rule introduced at this World Cup for the first time.

"They tore us apart when we played against them so I think you have to look out when you face them".

He said his players were aware of the rules but he had refused to tell them to adapt their game accordingly.

Germany's Merkel meets Jordanian king in Amman
German Chancellor Angela Merkel on Thursday called for confronting what she described as Iran's "aggressive" policies in the region.

Another fan Ken Msonthi said: "Senegal should maintain that team and their coach Alou Cissie". He's a really good player with real confidence about himself.

Although the teams from the African continent did not fare well in Russian Federation, the 42-year-old believes football in the CAF region is on the right track.

"Malawi date Morocco just around the corner in September, but what are we doing about it", questioned Joseph Makandanje.

"This is the first time we've used it at a World Cup, so we will review it".

To which someone alluded that the Atlas Lions will definitely vent their frustrations of the World Cup on the Flames. "We believe that teams should go forward on their performance and what happens on the pitch, not in a draw bowl", Smith said.

The elimination of Germany in the first round and several teams failing to shine has left the World Cup wide open.

After what has been an enthralling round of Group Stage matches, yesterday was a complete stinker.
