Saudi Arabia faces 'serious consequences' if Khashoggi claims true: UK

Khashoggi case should not be politicized, says UN expert

In Turkey on Thursday, a spokesman for President Erdogan told the state-run Anadolu Agency that Turkey and Saudi Arabia would form a "joint working group" to look into the journalist's disappearance.

Khashoggi vanished after entering the Saudi consulate in Istanbul, Turkey, on October 2. They said at the weekend they believed Mr Khashoggi was killed by a team sent to Istanbul and thought to consist of 15 Saudis.

The video later shows some of the men leaving a hotel near the Saudi consulate and Khashoggi entering the consulate.

Turkey can not remain silent over the disappearance of Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi, President Tayyip Erdogan was quoted as saying by Hurriyet newspaper on Thursday, adding Turkey is investigating all aspects of the case. A spokesman for the State Department insisted the USA government had "no advance warning" of Khashoggi's disappearance. "That's why I want to say, we don't want to make any judgments about what happened, and we call for a thorough and transparent investigation".

In another Fox News interview late Wednesday, Trump said it is too early for him to commit to any possible response should Saudi Arabia be responsible for Khashoggi's disappearance. Although this incident could potentially fuel a political crisis between the two nations, let us not lose sight of the human aspect of what happened. Asked about a Washington Post report that USA intelligence had intercepted top Saudi officials discussing a plan to capture Khashoggi, Trump told Fox, "It would be a very sad thing".

Mohammed ordered that Khashoggi be lured from the United States, where he had been living for the past year after a crackdown on dissidents in the kingdom, to Saudi Arabia, where he could be detained, the Washington Post reported.

Rubio said on "America's Newsroom" that if evidence of Saudi involvement is found, there will be an effort in Washington, D.C.to "fundamentally alter" the U.S. -Saudi relationship.

White House spokeswoman Sarah Sanders said National Security Advisor John Bolton, Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and Trump's aide and son-in-law Jared Kushner had all spoken to Prince Mohammed over the past two days over the case. A senior Turkish official told the Times that "Ankara hoped that Washington and the global community would take the lead in challenging Saudi Arabia".

English Premier League Report, Liverpool v Manchester City, 7 October
"On the other hand, I'm disappointed we gifted Rangers goals early in the match and didn't score when we had opportunities". He said: "The problem was in the Premier League we conceded three in five or six minutes".

Secretary of State Mike Pompeo then had a follow-up call with the crown prince to reiterate the USA request for information and a thorough, transparent investigation.

The kingdom calls the allegation "baseless", but has not offered any evidence to explain why Mr Khashoggi simply walked out of the consulate and disappeared though his fiancée waited outside for him. "Maybe we'll be pleasantly surprised, but somehow I doubt it". "The intelligence reports are very direct, very short and give further credence to the fact that the focus needs to be on Saudi Arabia right now", Corker said.

Mr Erdogan has previously challenged Saudi Arabia to provide proof of its version of events - that Mr Khashoggi, a prominent critic of the Saudi monarchy, had left the consulate "after a few minutes or one hour".

"It's a very sad situation, it's a very bad situation and we want to get to the bottom of it", Trump said.

Sen. Bob Corker, R-Tenn., said it's looking more and more likely that Saudi Arabia killed a journalist who has been missing since last week.

Hatice Cengiz made the appeal in an opinion piece for The Washington Post newspaper, where Khashoggi was a columnist and an outspoken critic of some of Riyadh's policies. He went to the diplomatic building on October 2 with Cengiz but was not seen after entering it.

He added, "The Saudis continue to claim that they aren't targeting civilians inside Yemen, but how can we believe them when they apparently just hunted down and murdered an American resident whose only offense was writing critical articles about the Saudi royal family?"
